We don't have a Bumbo and cash is pretty tight right now. Are there other ways for my LO to practice sitting? She has very strong neck and upper body control. She can roll over both ways. I usually let her sit in my lap and she does well, but not sure if that is the same experience as the bumbo seat?
Re: Don't have a Bumbo, other ways to practice sitting?
Just an FYI, a bumbo doesn't actually aid in developing the ability to sit because it doesn't help the muscular development of the child. All it does is artificially support the baby in a seated position. It is more of a convenience tool than a development one.
Our health care provider suggested as much tummy time as possible to develop the muscles that support sitting. We are also helping him sit supported on the floor, couch and our laps as much as possible.
No bumbo is needed. More floor time and just playing with baby in your lap ( sitting her up) will do the job. Sitting up is months away it will happen when it happens. The bumbo is just another place to put the baby for entertainment and a free mom's hands.
One thing you can use when they are close to sitting but fall over is the boppie pillow.
We have a bumbo and we use it during play time to give him a different perspective from lying down all the time, and I can do things without having to hold him (i.e. fold laundry).
I also lay him down in front of me with his legs pointing towards me and I get him to grasp my fingers tightly. I then gently pull him into the sitting position. He's able to keep his head aligned with his shoulders and not flop around. I will slowly lower him down again, but he fights it and tries to remain upright. I guess that's an ab workout too.

We prop LO up on the sofa too. She loves it and everyone gets a kick out of her looking like a big girl! She likes the Bumbo too, but she gets frustrated when her head bops around too much for she only sits there for 5 minutes at a time, tops.
We have a bumbo and barely use it. I think MIL might use it once or twice a week during the day. We practice sitting either on our laps, the floor or supported by the sofa cushions. DD seems to like those better than the bumbo anyways. Looking back, I probably should have picked something different that would entertain her more.
