Thinking my working days are done...

Well I am an RN, and I think tonight is my last shift. I will be 27 weeks on Tuesday and my body is telling me to STOP. Last shift I worked I was 25 and a half weeks and that was when it started. I work 12 hour shifts and my back feels like it is broken, I get out of breath and I start getting a really tight tummy. It just is not worth it to risk it. I came in to work at 7 tonight and by 8, my body was screaming. It feels so early to stop working but my doctor said between 24-28 I would probably have to stop. I was doing fine and then just hit a wall. I am so thankful for making it this far and will talk to my doctor on tuesday.

  • It's good that you're listening to your body. That is such a demanding job so it sounds like you're doing the right thing. Enjoy this down time, the quiet before the storm : )

  • I stopped at 29 (almost 3 weeks ago) and I'm SO glad I did. I hadn't realized how exhausted I truly was because I was fighting through it and I feel so much more relaxed now that I nap when I feel like it, I take a break to eat when I feel like it, and when indigestion, heartburn, and PUPPS keep me up at night, it doesn't ruin my entire day. You won't regret going out of work, I'm sure of it!

  • My OB has already pulled me from work due to the obvious stress it placed on my body after working. Our bodies don't care how far along we are, but they know when they have had enough.

This is my siggy. Love it.

I'm a nurse also and I was wondering what kind of effect it would have on my body and when. I know we are all different, but from what I've read it seems like around week 26 your body starts to slow down and need much more rest. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to check out my calendar and see where I will be around week 26. Good luck!
