Bottles

So I have finally decided to try introducing formula to DS, and he hasstopped taking  a bottle! I usually give him a bottle of expressed BM at night during his cluster feeding time.  Any suggestions to get him to take a bottle again?

Also, if he does go back to the bottle, how do you prepare formula? What kind of water do you use and what is the temp?

TIA  :)

Re: Bottles

  • For formula, we boil tap water, wait for it to cool room temp, and then prefill the bottles. When we are ready to feed we add the powder to the water, shake, and it's ready to go.

It takes about 30 minutes to clean bottles, nipples, lids, collars; as well as fill each. (Our dishwasher is CRAP and barely cleans normal dishes so I don't trust it to clean LOs bottles and accessories.)  We never let it go down to no pre-filled bottles ready. Once it's down to 2-3 left then we start the wash/fill cycle.

  • We buy the gallons of nursery water since they are only $1 and one gallon last about 3-4 days. We just pour it in the bottles, mix and serve at room temp. We only have six bottles and wash them in the a.m and p.m. We hand wash with soap and water and then put them in the sterilizer to prevent any bacteria :)

I've been using filtered water from the fridge to mix up the formula.  We actually give our daughter 1/2 bm and 1/2 formula in each bottle.

  • We use filtered tap water since we are on city water and don't have to worry about well water. Temp is about room temperature.

  • If you haven't already try having someone other than you give the bottle with you out of the room.

  • I use the Dr Browns pitcher to mix up the formula, and I use filtered water from the frig. I store the pitcher in the frig and make bottles as needed. I make a cup of hot water from my Keurig coffee machine and sit the bottle in a mug to warm up.
  • I have just started doing the same - making a jug of formula in fridge and use as needed - it last about a day and a half.. do you know how soon you need to use it once prepared this way?
