any way to entice a LO to like the paci?

I am so wanting DD to like the bink, and i wanted to see if anyone has any tricks that could entice her to enjoy it more. She has held it in her mouth for a few minutes at a time, but usually spits it out. Is there a certain bink that is preferred over the others?

The book "Happiest Baby on the Block" talks about how newborns (not sure how old your baby is) have to learn how to strengthen their mouth muscles. Put it in her mouth and after she starts sucking, gently tug on it. Repeat several times. She will reflexively suck harder. Keep doing that over several days and she likely will learn how to keep it in.

  • My son only likes the Soothie pacifiers...and I have to stick my finger in it and move it back and forth a bit and then he goes to town on it.

Same here, and whenever we took our DS to get blood drawn for jaundice they have us sucrose (sugar) water to dip it in to help him take it easier (cause he usually will spit it back out) and he would take it great then. Good luck!

For my DD it helps if I rub the side of her cheek.  For some reason it seems to help coordinate the sucking action to keep it in.

Babies don't/can't really keep it in well until a few months old IMO. All 3 of my kids are pappy babies and they ALL would spit it out after a while. What I do is hold them to my chest sideways so that the pappy is against my chest and they can't spit it out. This helps them "get it."
