My 3 week old has been bearing down as if he's having a bm and he holds his breathe and turns really red and sometimes purple for a week now. He does it constantly no matter what. He started to vomit and not hold his formula down. Ha anyone else has this.  We are in a hospital right now bc he had blood in his stool and his X-ray showe a lot of air in him but he passes has and has Norman bm's so they arent sure why he still has a lot of air.

I would bet that your LO is either intolerant or allergic to dairy, soy or both.  You are using formula which would be made from one of these depending on what kind you are giving to him, and allergies/intolerances usually show up around two weeks old...and you said this has been going on for a week.  infant discomfort, repeated bearing down, reflux, being really gassy (air in the bowels), and blood in his stool, baby acne, and eczema are all symptoms you might see however you don't have to have all of those symptoms to be dairy or soy intolerant.  i bet if you tried similac's alimentum or enfamil's nutramigen you would see a whole new baby within 24-36 hours. 

FWIW, I feed DD alimentum and her symptoms (grunting after feeding, arching/choking during feeds, allergy rash on her bottom, and blood in her stool) were gone in 24-48 hours.

Our pedi thought it was an allergy so we were on 8 different formulas and he did not gain an ounce in a 2 week span and he threw everything up. He eventually was diagnosed with Pyloric Stenosis and had surgery. 100% better every since.

He was on Similac soy now they have him on enfamils nutramigen. They brought up that poly thing but said he is too young to tell since he was 3 weeks early. They said they will have to recheck for that in a month. Ivan hoping its just an allergy. They were concerned with him turning purple and with all the air in him considering he passes gas frequently an his stools are frequent.
