C-sections

Question for those with multiple C-Sections...

I'm still not sure if my doctor is going to go ahead and just do a scheduled c-section. They have asked my previous hospital for my charts to see what went on with my first one. I'd like to try for a VBAC but I'm a little weary. I'm leaning towards another c-section, but I have a question about the incision. Do they just go over the same incision place? I don't want a second scar!!

Re: Question for those with multiple C-Sections...

  • I just had a RCS a week ago an I only have one scar... I think that is pretty typical.

  • My second incision was made exactly where my first one was, and my doctor trimmed the keloid from the first scar, so it looks much thinner now:)  Unless there is a medical reason to cut somewhere else, they will make an incision over the old one.

Did you ask your doctor to trim up your first scar? I would totally love for mine to do that!

My OB did that for me both times because I had a keloid. I don't have a keloid this time, so there's no need to "trim" my scar.

  • I have two separate scars and have had two c-sections.  This will be my 3rd c-section and I am not sure if my Dr. will need to make a new incision or if it will be over one of the existing?

  • I have a repeat c/s Tuesday and they just went over the same scar.
  • I had a repeat c-section and they did it in the same place as the first.

    Two sections, one scar.

  • 3 c/s - one scar.

I'm an advocate (for those on the fence) of waiting to see what is best for you and your baby. If baby and you are healthy - continue on and see what happens. If c/s looks like the best option b/c of baby's needs or yours go for the c/s.

If you're on the fence, make sure you push the scheduling back so you can keep your options open and give your baby a chance to help you make the choice that's safest for your body and the baby.

  • My Dr. went through the same incision as my first so I just have one scar.

  • I have had two c-sections and Id say I have a scar and a half. HAHA! Im assuming the doctor tried to cut the same spot but he got a little funky. My first scar was beautiful! Flat and white, hardly noticeable. Now, I have a red, what appears to be a keloid scar that goes over the old scar at some points, and then above at others. Hard to explain..but its not cute...lol
  • I am scheduled for my 2nd C-section on June 12th. 6 days from my due date. My doctor said they will use the old scar. It's a different group and different hospital from the first. I wanted to go for the VBAC but the doctors I have talked to in the practice do not think it is possible because of my first labor. Their are 10 delivering doctors in the practice, I have seen about 4 of them so far.

  • 100% this. I have had 2 C/S and 1 scar. I was set on a VBAC, but I had to be induced due to growth issues and lack of fluid. I couldn't have anything (pitocin and the like) to help labor because of DS's heart rate dropping, and my body wasn't ready on it's own. After 15 hours I was dilated to 1.5 and opted for a C/S because I truly felt I would lose my son otherwise. This is just my case, lots of people can do VBAC, and if you are POSITIVE that is what you want, go for it... but if you are too worried, it may make it more difficult. Know what you want and what you and your child need and choose from there.

I've had 2 c-section, but I only have one scar.  Also, my scar looks better this time than it did the first time!
