Does anybody know if there are any hardware mounted gates with pet openings?
I can find hardware mounted gates, and I can find pressure mounted gates with pet openings, but I can't find a hardware mounted gate with a pet opening.
Here's what I mean by "pet opening": https://www.amazon.com/Carlson-0930PW-Extra-Wide-Walk-Thru-White/dp/B000JJDI0G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338034762&sr=8-1
It needs to be hardware mounted because I want to put it at the top of the stairs.
Re: Hardware mounted baby gate with pet opening?
How big is your pet? I have a 14lb. cat and he can squeeze himself inbetween the wall and the side bar on our top-of-stairs gate.
I'd worry about putting a pet opening in a top-of-stairs gate because if the opening is big enough for a larger pet, it would be big enough for a child to crawl through (or get stuck in).
I have 3 small dogs; ranging from 6-10 pounds. So the opening doesn't need to be very big.
We an extremely similar gate but not for stairs; our apartment is long and we wanted to separate the back half/kitchen, where the cat's litter box is, from the hallway/living room, where the dogs roam. The dogs will eat out of the cat box if given the chance.
Our building is very old so this gate slips out of place sometimes since the doorway is very uneven, but there are little cups that you physically screw into the wall. Then, on the gate are rods that twist in and out to various lengths and there's a thing on the end that screws into the cups that are screwed into the wall. What happens with everyday use is that the slanted surface of our wonky doorway causes the... cup inserts (?) to start unscrewing. This wouldn't be a problem with a normal surface.
If we had stairs and our walls/doorframe was flat, I'd trust the gate for the top of the stairs. I'm not sure what our gate is because it looks identical to this one aside form the fact that where there is a "rubber stopper" for pressure mounting, ours as separate cups that screw into the wall and then the rods from the gate extend to screw into them.

We just ordered one from Amazon today.
Edit: Didn't read your whole post first. We did just order one, so I can let you know for sure or not, but I know most baby gates come with either option. We have a baby gate up now for our puppy, but need another one for when Baby comes.
The only problem I am thinking of - these are sold as dog gates - NOT baby gates... ya know?
