Anybody else still using white noise?

We've used it since the day we brought DD home and have no plans to stop. Her bedroom is on the first floor, and I'm pretty sure if we didn't have the white noise machine we'd have to be silent every moment she slept.

We do... I plan on using until she is old enough to tell me she doesn't want it anymore.  I would use one in our room if DH was on board.

  • We still use it, I have no plans to stop. I use one in my own room, I love them.
  • Oh hell yes we do.  A few weeks ago I hit the timer on accident, and 20 minutes after it went off Cam woke up -- oops!  We live in a ranch too so it allows us to go about our business without waking him up.

Eh, it is kind of a sleep crutch. I don't consider it to be a problem though. Like I said, we have no plans on stopping. I just remember lots of people talking about the sleep sheep, etc. when our LOs were newborns and I wondered who all was still using white noise.

  • My sister does for her 2 kids, ages 4 and 2....

I think with the next baby, I am going to cut it earlier.  And be loud when the baby sleeps, so I don't have to tiptoe around.  We also have a ranch.

Sounds good in theory, eh?  You know the minute the baby wakes up I'll be all, GET THE FAN!!  :-)

I think the term sleep crutch is lame.  I mean, don't we all have sleep crutches?  I have my pillow I like.  I like to have a fan going.  I have a certain routine I do before i go to bed.  If I am OOT I don't sleep as well because I don't have these things.   Really, does anyone sleep the same no matter where they are?  I bet not.

  • I bet not too!  We finally got ourselves a Tempurpedic mattress, thinking it would be the best thing ever.  And....it IS.....but it makes staying overnight anywhere else totally suck.  I miss my bed when I am away from home.  :-)  So it's my sleep crutch.

This is true, but I think with babies its different. If they don't have their sleep routines and sleep crappy, its usually up all night and crabby the next day. As adults we can just tell ourselves that we'll get our own pillow tomorrow night and to just adjust.

  • we transitioned to music, either lullabys or the radio for naps during the day. mostly because we live in a condo so its to mask the noise better while we go about what we want to do.

I get almost no sleep when I'm away from home. Maybe I'm odd though.

  • White noise saves our life daily. This weekend we're at my parents and forgot our machine. 1st night was hell, the second night I got an iPhone App and life was good.
