Found out at my appointment today that baby is presenting transverse face first. Doctor is recommending a c-section tomorrow. Does anyone have any experience with this? It is very rare, and I have no idea what to do. Was hoping for a natural birth but want to do what's best for baby.
Re: Face Presentation
It is unusual but a woman in our local ICAN had a face presentation VBAC last year. https://birthwithoutfearblog.com/2011/06/04/face-presentation-vaginal-birth/
The biggest concern really is whether or not your OB is confident in his/her ability to handle the presentation. It sounds like maybe no, in which case if you're not able to switch at this point a c-section may be best. GL!
I am reading Spiritual Midwifery too. Based on that story I think it is possible, but as pp said it might depend on your Dr's confidence. Call a few random offices and see what they say
You might dig around on www.spinningbabies.com to see whether there's anything they suggest that could help reposition. Maybe get in the water at least and do some swimming.
If you can't find anything (I couldn't after looking for a few min) you could try emailing Gail Tully (creator of the site, and a midwife) directly to get her take. Read here for how to email her (and make sure you check the site first to see if it's already covered somewhere)

In my limited knowledge I understand that babies can be born face first but it may not be easy. This may be a case where a cesarean birth becomes needed for the baby's well being. I'm not an expert though.
Best of luck to you.
