Blended Families

General Question NBFR

Does anyone here adhere to a cleaning schedule and care to share?  I'm looking to get into a routine to help keep me sane and to set a good example for the kids.  (I'm worried my SD is starting to think that leftover hot dogs on the living room floor, that the dogs wouldn't eat, is an acceptable way to live...)

  • I do laundry every Sunday.  I clean Saturday morning but I generally clean/straighten up as I go so there isnt much Saturday morning.

  • I tried to have a day by day 'Monday you sweep and mop an vacuum, Tuesday scrub bathrooms' but I couldn't stick to the exact schedule. Sometimes I sweep and mop 4x a week, sometimes the kids bathroom doesn't new cleaned bc at the moment SS is the only one who uses the potty, so after just 3 or 4 days of use it's senseless to do thr bathroom... Idk. I have sort of learned to just clean on a day to day basis. I do have set laundry days but that's just to keep my sanity. My H sometime thinks I'm a dry cleaning service 'Hun did you wash that one shirt from...'. Now he knows if he put if in the dirty, it won't get washed till Monday or Thursday. I'm also a stickler on everything having its 'place

Kids know we don't eat anywhere but the table, toys stay upstairs, treat books w respect and put them in the bookcase, etc...

I generally clean on the weekends.  During the week I have to vacum and sweep, due to the dog hair, you'd never know a little pug can shed so darm much.  I also try to do my laundry during the week, so I don't have to do it on the weekend.

I also have been writing up a "to do" list with all the chores that need to get done, and then split them up between, myself, H and the two kids.  Our house is not very big, so I can knock out the cleaning in a hour.

  • I just recently changed ours. I had everything where everyone had 3 daily chores and 3 weekly chores to do over the weekend. But the mess of no one doing what they were supposed to drove me insane. Now I clean one room, do one load of laundry and general pick up every day. The kids rooms are their own and their crap stays in them.

Sundays I leave free, Mondays the living room and denims, Tuesdays light colors and the main bathroom, Wednesdays the kitchen and dark colors, Thursdays our bedroom and bedding, Fridays our bathroom and towels/bathroom rugs, Saturdays whites and the laundry room.

Our house is cleaner than it has ever been and I'm much more sane.

  • I would die if I did laundry every day, I haaaate folding lol.  When the kids are here they like to be in the mix so they drag toy after toy to the family room and kitchen.  It all goes back to their room before bed.

  • I keep it all pretty organized.

For laundry I do that every day, and take dry cleaning on Wednesdays.  In a house with four boys it needs to be done that often.

In the kitchen I sweep daily and do dishes after every meal, counters wiped down then too and mop at least once a week.

Living areas get vacuumed and dusted once a week.

Bed rooms for the boys I mostly just collect dirty clothes and any dishes and they can keep them the way they want. Master bedroom I change the sheets and sweep once a week.

Bathrooms are also once a week or as needed.  I would leave the boys to their own on that too but something would surely grow and spread through the house.

My once a week things around the house I try to get done on Monday or another week day.  Weekends are family time.

  • I do one load of laundry a day so I can keep up, but other than that, no, not much of a routine. Probably why the rest of my house always seems to be such a mess...
