TTC After a Loss

Physical exam?

So, my OBGYN wants to see me for a follow up in 2 months if we're not KU. I feel good about this, but was thinking it might not hurt in the meantime to see my general doctor for a basic physical. I can't remember the last time I had anything other than a PAP, and I would like to get some basic bloodwork done too. I had really low vitamin D levels a couple years ago and was put on special high doses of it for a short amount of time before going down to a regular over the counter strength vitamin. I never did follow up or get retested, though, so i have no idea if my levels are good now. I also have read a few things on hypothyroidism lately that have me a bit concerned and would want to get tested for that as well.

Do you think it makes sense to ask my general doc for a basic checkup and bloodwork, or do you think I should just wait for my OB appointment? Part of me feels like it can't hurt just to make sure I'm healthy overall now, but I also don't know what else they do or check for in a physical? Maybe I should just get the blood work, in which case do you think it makes more sense to just wait and see what my OB says in 2 months?

The last couple times I had a physical they didn't do much. I think I'm of the age where I'm not growing anymore, and I'm not old enough to need some of the standard tests that they give middle-aged adults. So there wasn't too much to check in the office. At least that's the impression I got. They just made sure I was getting regular PAP's and we reviewed family history. It wasn't too productive, but I did walk away with some peace of mind.

If you think it would make you feel better to do this, go for it! Doing your bloodwork would also probably be nice peace of mind as well. It's really up to you and the cost/benefit ratio when you factor in the copays and lab fees. Good luck!

Thanks, hon. I'm not holding out any hope, though. In fact, I had a couple beers last night which is probably what caused the temp rise (alcohol does that to me, even just a couple drinks). But here's hoping...

  • I went back in April for a physical. I had the same thought as you...they did some bloodwork, and did an EKG and a lung test. I just wanted to make sure I was as healthy as I could be. My dr did some extra blood tests than are the norm, based on my family history.

My insurance covers it at 100% once a year. Which reminds me, I have to call and ask for my copay refunded.

It wouldn't hurt, and as PPs mentioned it could give you some peace of mind, especially about your vitamin D levels.

My OB has done all necessary testing for me. If you wanna get the testing done before your OB appt, then go to your PCP. Comes down to your preference of timing of testing.

I totally understand....  I have been having wine this whole time (I test Monday)(and I testers today at 10DPO because I am impatient!). I'm just so gun-shy now that I can't let myself imagine "what if I am? When will my due date be? Etc". It's not over until AF shows her ugly face tho! So yes, here's to hoping!!! :-)

  • I had a pysichal in Dec. Because I wanted to see of I was healthy etc.. My dr. Ran the basic b/w panel which was generally informative and even snuck on some basic clotting b/w to test for loss. Bonus, I didn't even have to pay the co-pay since it was an annual.
