C started coughing Sunday night and it's gotten worse each night. He seems fine during the day. His nose was runny but that seems to have stopped. He also had a new tooth break thru, so I think the runny nose was party due to teething.
We leave 1st thing Monday for a visit with DH's family. Should I try to see the pedi or am I overreacting? FWIW, he woke up happy and no fever this morning.
Re: WWBOTB do?
I used to take Ry to the doctor for every sniffle/cough/etc. Most of the time we were sent home with "its a cold" thing. So now I try to see if it will go away on its own a little first---typically if she's got the green snot I take her since thats a pretty good sign of more than a cold!
Coughing could be conjestion or allergies---have you tried a humidifier or anything?
Of course if taking him to the pedi will make you worry less---then do it! You want to enjoy the weekend.
The coughing usually does get worse at night. J just got over a virus (low grade fever, cough, runny nose), but was teething too, so that may be where the nose came in.
I took him in because his fever spiked to 102, and then his cough turned from a dry, barking, croup-y cough to a wet, chesty cough. I wanted to make sure it hadn't settled into his lungs. They ended up giving him an inhaler because his lungs were starting to sound "heavy".
If there's no fever, and he's acting ok, I'd let him go for now. If he's still coughing for a week straight with no improvement, I'd take him in.
If cough is worse at night coudl be due to post nasal drip. WHICH isn't so much of a problem but it can back up into his ears and cause an infection.
I would take him in knowing we are going away and just how badly ear infections hurt and how quickly they can flare up.
Plus if it is allergy related they might suggest benedryl or claritin or something to help with the cough.
