Albuterol for persistent cough

DS has had a phlegmy cough for a few days now, with a stuffy nose.  The doc had me give him a breathing treatment in the office and sent us home with a nebulizer and treatments for the next few days.

Has anyone else had to do this, and how did it go?  It just seems like way too much for a cough, but I don't want to go without treating him just because it seems like overkill to me.  I know I'm the mom, and I can decide what happens, but I'm looking for your experiences.  Thanks!

  • We are doing the same thing. DS had broncioltis, your dr may not have wanted it to go that far. He has done pretty good with the treatments. They make him a little jittery but he's a trouper. ?GL

  • I have not had to do this with DD, but am familiar in it from my job. Did the dr tell you her lungs were clear? I just wonder if they were also using this for wheezing? With persistent coughs, the albuterol helps with the bronchospasm causing the cough. It should really help. I think if your dr recommended it, it's necessary...
