Albuterol for persistent cough

DS has had a phlegmy cough for a few days now, with a stuffy nose.  The doc had me give him a breathing treatment in the office and sent us home with a nebulizer and treatments for the next few days. 

Has anyone else had to do this, and how did it go?  It just seems like way too much for a cough, but I don't want to go without treating him just because it seems like overkill to me.  I know I'm the mom, and I can decide what happens, but I'm looking for your experiences.  Thanks!

We are doing the same thing. DS had broncioltis, your dr may not have wanted it to go that far. He has done pretty good with the treatments. They make him a little jittery but he's a trouper. ?GL

I have not had to do this with DD, but am familiar in it from my job. Did the dr tell you her lungs were clear? I just wonder if they were also using this for wheezing? With persistent coughs, the albuterol helps with the bronchospasm causing the cough. It should really help. I think if your dr recommended it, it's necessary...
