LO won't eat after morning wake up - anyone else?

For the past several days, I've noticed that my DS won't eat when he wakes up in the morning.  He is EBF and it's become a struggle with him to latch and he gets upset, so I don't continue with it.  I worry because it's sometimes 4-5 hours since his last night feeding and I assume he would be starving, but he won't eat.  Is this normal?  Anyone else's LO do something similar??

Yes, my DS just started this a few weeks ago.  So we just let him play until he gets tired and then feed him before he naps again.  It kind of messes up the whole eat, play, sleep routine but he just isn't interested in eating when he first wakes either.

Mine sleeps for 12 straight hours and isn't hungry when he wakes up.  He will maybe take an ounce or two of BM and then wants to play and laugh. It takes him over an hour to finish the first morning bottle.  He wakes up so happy and wants to chill before eating. 

I wouldn't push it...just let him decide when he's hungry.

Both girls started this just before they turned 3 months old.  They wake up and are wide awake and want to chat and play.  Sometimes they play for almost an hour, sometimes for just 15 minutes, but if we try to feed them before playing they have none of it.  He'll eat when he's hungry!

Thank you for the reassurances, ladies!  Feeding on demand is so much harder than I anticipated it would be.  I thrive on schedules, so this is all new to me.
