HFM was going around daycare, and DD is showing the first symptoms (fever, sore throat, tired). It's still early, but if this does turn out to be HFM how long are kids usually out of daycare for it?
ususally by the time you are able to determine it is HFM, it is clear to go back. The spread of the germ is prior to the sores. Once the child has the fever the germ has been spread. The rest is just recoup time.
There's a lot of conflicting information out there, because pediatricians are all apparently telling parents something else.
What I learned was that my child had it (cocksackie, but not hfm, so no sores), and she never had a fever. My son had the fever (it was in his class), never got sores, but had stomach and headache. Daughter got same. Pedi told us to keep them both out until (with son, beyond 24 hours after his fever broke and remained fever free), and with daughter, until she was free of stomach and headache for an entire day (assuming no other symptoms present). I'm always on the conservative side, but then, I'm the one who leaves with my kids as soon as I see kids with sores all over their faces being allowed in (b/c some docs are saying "it's fine."). Ours said they are definitely NOT.

Sorry your child isn't feeling well.
