DS is lactose intolerant I think. He's been on soy since we started formula, because when I was nursing he would get the runs if I had milk. I just tried regular formula and he had awful runny poop and he's got a nasty diaper rash. I need to make an appointment to see the pedi, but is anybody doing something besides WCM? I'm not opposed to keeping him on formula past a year, cause I just don't see how his diet could be sufficient enough without it.
Re: Alternative to WCM
My lo is allergic/senstive to dairy and eggs through my breast milk. He still is receiving pumped BM without supplementation.
He will probably have to drink enriched rice milk (which I drink now) or maybe almond milk when I begin to transition him.
You could also do soy milk, I am staying away from soy because of the estrogen like proteins.
My daughter has a milk soy protein intolerance and is on hypoallergenic formula. When we switch her over, our pedi said to either use Almond milk or Coconut milk. Both have twice as much calcium as WCM and have the same amount of fatty acids--or something like that. Obviously we have to get her protein from somewhere else. My pedi said rice milk doesn't offer the same benefits, so for a baby (under 2), it wouldn't be a good choice.
I'm thinking we are just going to go with Almond milk, but I did hear that some have soy. She can't do that (not sure if yours can), so I will have to look out for that.
We have been using a combination of Hemp and Almond Milk. The only supplement we give is poly-vi-sol which is a multi vitamin. We make sure that he gets other healthy fats like avacado, fish, and olive oil.
He is going great. He has been on it for roughly 6 weeks.
