Hi Ladies!
I wanted to come over and introduce myself finally to the board - I'm still a little nervous to be doing so so early on since I know so much can change.
We found out last week during an unplanned ER trip (migraine and horrible vomiting for 5 hours straight) that we're expecting twins. They did an internal u/s and found two babies, two fetal poles, and two heartbeats in the same gestational sac (not really sure if that means anything so early on - I was 6 weeks 6 days at the time). I'm a little concerned about Baby B's heartbeat - Baby A was at a strong 140 bpm and Baby B was at a variable 120-150 bpm. The doctor said it's really too early to judge the heart rate but - I'm still a little nervous I just want them to be healthy.
But - based on my LMP and O date I'm due 1/3/2012 (40 weeks - not sure if they change it for twins?). I'm newly married and we were very lucky to only be TTC for a short time. We're also first time parents. DH has twins on his side of the family - his great grandfather had twin brothers and sisters. But that's the only place where twins could of come from if in fact its genetic.
But I just wanted to poke my head over here and say hello and that I look forward to getting to know you all!
Edit - My first actual real appointment is June 8th at 10 weeks so I'll know more real solid information then

Thanks! That's pretty neat!
This is all still really new so there is a TON we don't know or even know where to begin. Excitement has finally set in and I'm starting to look at it as twice as much love and twice as many smiles rather than two cribs, two carseats etc...
Call your OB and get an earlier appointment. Tell them that you found out it's twins. Call and put a bell in her ear. She may very well want to see you before that 10 week mark.
GL and welcome to the board!
Congrats! Yes, one placenta is always identical, and like PP said, Identicals aren't genetic, just a freak of nature that can happen to anyone. Even if they were fraternal (which can be genetic), it doesn't matter that your DH has twins on his side. Twins only come from the female side. You either have one fertilized egg that splits (identical), or you ovulate 2 eggs for that month (fraternal). DH can't take any credit for this...it's all you However, he could pass that gene on to your kids, so your daughters could have twins, or your sons could pass it to their daughters, etc. Anyway, it sounds like your having identicals, so congrats!
Welcome and congratulations!
They don't move the 40w due date for twins, they just know it will be earlier than that.
As mentioned, I would try to get an earlier appointment with the OB. Some types of twins are higher risk than others and require more monitoring.
It's standard at our clinic not to be seen until a minimum of 10-12 weeks. They already recieved the information from my ER visit and contacted me and made notations in my file that it's a twin pregnancy. (We're military and our care is on base so it's quite different than out in town).
Thanks for the welcome! And the explanations
