I want to practice a couple cake recipes for DD's birthday. We're going a healthier route mainly because MH and I eat Paleo and we want DD to as well (This one uses almond flour. We would increase ingredients to be a cake rather than muffins). I found the recipe below and it got good reviews, but....it uses honey - which babies can't have. My question: can dark karo syrup or real maple syrup be a substitute for honey? Not exactly Paleo but none of the concerns of honey. I'm not a big baker so I really have no idea - what do you think?
Almond Flour Applesauce Muffins
3 large eggs 1/2 cup plain yogurt 3 tablespoons honey 1/2 cup applesauce (unsweetened) 1 teaspoon cinnamon 3 cups ground almonds (almond flour or meal) 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt
Re: Any substitute(s) for honey?
I have no idea if the substitutes will work.
Will the honey be baked into the recipe? Our pedi told us that honey was fine for DS to eat as long as it was baked into food.
I agree that you should be able to use agave nectar. Maybe use light because it'll be less rich?
USE THE HONEY!!
sorry for the yelling, but it is totally fine to use the honey. I just did a ton of research on this because I got a bunch of crap when Zoe got fed some baklava in Greece.
Here is my blog post on it.
I can probably answer any questions you have on the subject.
Yes, I have a blog and it's hilarious (except when it's not)

Thanks everyone. I don't know much about Agave but will definitely look into it. I also wasn't sure about the whole cooking part too.
LMAO at AshleyPT - It's okay...you can yell at me! Thanks for the link.
