Sucking thumb

My little guy has been sucking his thumb.  He never really loved the pacifier so i never pushed it.  But now he keeps sucking his thumb!  The dr said to try and give him the pacifier because its an easier habit to break.  However he just keeps spitting it out & going for that thumb!  Any tips on how to stop this?

Re: Sucking thumb

  • I'm the opposite. I'd prefer a thumb or finger over the pacifier.

    Try a sock maybe??

  • If it's soothing...let him have it!   Paci or thumb...neither are necessarily easy to "break" them from when the time comes.  The thumb is so much easier to "keep up with."  I say let him have it! :)

The good thing about his thumb is he can find it any time.  My nephew is dependent on his pacifier and my sister has to get up a few times a night to put it back in his mouth.

  • When my son sucks on his thumb, I take it out and put in a pacifier. Because I can take the pacifier away when I think it's time for him to be done with that sort of thing... I can't take away his thumbs. (or not leagally lol)
