Baby bullet vs. immersion blender

There was a post earlier this week about what you're using to make baby food, and a lot of people recommended getting an immersion blender because it's cheap, easy, and works well.  I went online to amazon and see that most of them are priced at about $35.  I could instead get the baby bullet complete set for $60 which includes the storage trays, jars, cookboot, etc... It seems worth it to me to get the bullet.  Am I missing something?

Re: Baby bullet vs. immersion blender

  • well, the immersion blender can be used for anything, not just making baby food.  (and it's awesome and much easier than a blender/bullet, IMO).  I thought it was pointless to get something that was going to be used for only a little amount of time

Hmmm this makes sense, I don't know why I didn't think of it that way.  Which one do you have?  There are so many to choose from.

  • The thing about the baby bullet is that it has very few uses aside from making baby food whereas you can use an immersion blender for all kinds of things. So if you cook a lot the immersion blender can be more bang for your buck. That said, I use a regular large food processor to make large batches of baby food. You have to drain the water to use an immersion blender anyway so it's not much more work.

  • I agree with PP.

I asked for the immersion for Christmas because I figured it was the cheap way to go.

MIL got me the Hamilton Beach cheapo one (which I was fine with). She included the receipt in case I wanted to take it back---she only paid $9 something plus tax (Kohls with coupon).

The Hamilton Beach has worked great so far. I requested it for baby food and baby food only but have been using it for regular cooking. I kinda wish I would have been picker about the one I got since I love it and will obviously use it after making baby food (which I never thought I would).

IMO---the washing part alone would have had me sold over the Baby Bullet. I HATE washing dishs. With this I just unplug, wash it off with soapy water, and I'm back in business. Nothing to take apart, put back together.

    As for the extras...

I already had these (a little cheaper though):

    https://www.amazon.com/Libbey-2-Ounce-Small-Plastic-8-Piece/dp/B001K40IOS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1337786356&sr=8-2

(which double as being nice when DH takes salads to lunch, etc)

And I got these (for $7 at a local store):

    https://www.amazon.com/Ball-Quilted-Jelly-Canning-Case/dp/B000VTSYA8/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1337786421&sr=1-1

Which I can see using later on to hold my small craft stuff (buttons, pins, etc).

Other than that I have some ice trays and large freezer bags.

So my total is probably around $32 (give or take) and for me convience and multi purpose wins over the baby bullet.

  • I have the Cuisinart SmartStick (it was $35 at Kohls.  Amazon has it too)

  • Immersion blender - all.the.way.  We use the Braun one.  Ours came with three different attachments - we use the blender and the whisk mostly.

I bought these for freezing food in.  (8oz Ball BPA free plastic freezer containers)

They're better than glass and they're meant to used in the freezer.  I have them in a bunch of other sizes too b/c we like them so much.

The immersion blender will fit all the way to the bottom of the pint sized containers (one size up)  Which would equal even less clean up IME.
