Do recieving blankets work well as wipes? I have a ton of receiving blankets that we hardly ever used (Lily hated being swaddled), I would like to cut some up to make into wipes for our next LO. Would this be a good idea or a waste of time?
They do work well. Personally, I'd either make a few layers, or back them with another fabric, as they are so thin. You'll also need to sew the edges, since the fabric frays easily.
Thanks, FI wasn't too keen on using cloth wipes with Lily but I'm hoping to convert him with our next. It just seems easier, you can throw them in with the diapers. What wipe solution do you use?
I used receiving blankets for some of my wipes. I didn't surge or double or do anything but cut them into squares. They unravel a little bit each wash, but since I got the blankets second-hand and had no use for them, it doesn't bother me to toss them when they get too small or too frayed. Maybe if I had a machine I would have surged them, but I don't, so I didn't.
DH really doesn't use the cloth wipes either, I have disposable in the house too. Only when his rash is really bad that he won't have a choice to use them, LOL!
the majority of our wipes are cut up receiving blankets. we just sewed two layers together around the edges. they work great. we use water on them. i keep a spray bottle on our change table and either squirt the wipe or his butt. works great!

I made mine in to diaper liners.
Perfect!
