Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Misoprostol??

Wish I wasn't here on this board...no offense to all you ladies, I'm sure you're all great people :)

I opted to use misoprostol to miscarry my non-viable pregnancy. Has anyone here ever use this before? I am supposed to insert 4 tablets high in my vagina but they don't give youan applicator!?

If anyone has any advice or experience with this drug( symptoms/side effects) please let me know.

Thank you...

Re: Misoprostol??

  • I used it for my first two miscarriages. It didn't work for me either time though and I ended up with D&Cs. I'm not saying that to scare you. There are plenty of women here who have used it and it did work.

For me, the first time I took it and within 20 minutes I started bleeding and I thought for sure that was a good sign that it was working but I only bled (medium to heavy flow) for about 3 hours or so and then nothing but spotting. The next morning we did an ultrasound that showed nothing had happened at all.

The second time I took it nothing happened at all. No bleeding, no cramping. Nothing.

I didn't get an applicator either. I just used my fingers and pushed it up as far as it would go. You can use a tampon applicator too if you've got one and just take the tampon out.

    I wish you the best!

I used Misoprostol (Cytotec).  I found out on Thursday March 30 I had a missed miscarraige.  By Saturday night, I decided to try Cytotec to induce my miscarraige opposed to waiting for natural and surgery (D&C).   At 7:30pm I took the first dose of Cytotec (2 pills).  They did not provide any applicator.  I don't think that would be safe for you.  I just put a little water on my finger and pushed it as far back as possible.

My doctor told me to wait on taking the pain meds until I felt I needed it.  So I waited.  At 8:00pm I started getting intense cramps.  I took a vicodin but it was too late.  I had severe cramping for an hour until my pain meds kicked in.  Then things went pretty well once I had the pain under control.  (So I would suggest taking the pain meds at the same time you put in the first dose of Cytotec.  Also, make sure to eat before hand because I was nausea's for the next day or two.)

I started bleeding around 4:00 am and it was just like a normal flow.  Around 7:30 am I took the second dose of cytotec (2 more pills).  By 11:00am, I had a lot of bleeding and passed a lot of tissue.  Most of the tissue passed at this time.  I had light spotting after.

The following Thursday I had a doctor's appointment since I was still spotting.  The doctor stated my uterus lining was still pretty thick and gave me some additional pills to take to help "push" out the rest of the products.  I thought after this everything was out but it wasn't. I just had a D&C last Wednesday (6weeks after taking the cytotec) to remove more tissue my body just didn't want push out.  I am still waiting for by betas to get back to normal.

If it would have pushed out all the product at first this would have been a great option but it didn't for me.  If I had (heaven forbid) do it again, I would just do the D&C.  But that was my experience.  A lot of ladies use cytotec and everything goes accordingly.  My initial exerience with it was it wasn't as bad as I expected except for the pain at the beginning.  GL and I am sorry you find yourself on this board.

I used Misoprostol, but my doctor did the insertion. My doctor inserted 4 pills around 11am and I had horrible cramping from about 1pm until 3pm (and severe diarrhea and vomitted at one point). I started bleeding at about 5pm and bled heavily until about midnight. I bled heavily for about 4-5 days afterward with mild cramping.

I've never heard of someone being sent home and having to insert the pills themself. You may want to call your doctor and ask about insertion.

I just got a prescription for misoprostol today after 2 weeks of waiting for a natural miscarriage. I was told by my doc to insert the 4 pills myself and just try to push them up as far as possible and then lay down. I'm pretty nervous about taking them. Good luck to you!
