Babies: 9 - 12 Months

is there life after the sleep sak?

my son is about to be 11 months old and he still sleeps in a sleep sak. i was about to go buy the next size for him but i'm wondering if i should stop having him sleep in them anymore. do i use a blanket now? he's all over the crib at night and will end up kicking it off like he does when he naps (i don't use a sleep sak during naps..only at night).  and if i use a blanket...are just regular pjs warm enough?  or do i layer him?  ugh...help.

  • idk i don't plan on nixing it until he seems like he doesn't want it. I bought a huge one from Dee Dee . I tried a blanket one night two weeks ago and he slept horrible

  • Idk what I'm going to do about the sacs. She's in a large now, we'll probably stop using it when it gets really warm in a couple months... I'm thinking I'll probably order a bigger one for next winter though, she likes to kick blankets off and I like knowing she'll be warm in the sacs. Unless something changes from now until then and she learns to sleep with a regular blanket?...

  • We ditched the sleep sack about a month ago.  She was getting too big for it and I didn't have time to buy her the next size (even I ordered it online she would have slept a night or 2 without).  I put a blanket over her but she's also all over the crib & usually ends up uncovered.  But with the warmer weather starting in our area she's been fine with out it.  We haven't layered, just regular PJ's.

    Good luck!

  • I'm going to use them until he doesn't want it anymore, or they don't fit anymore which ever comes first.  He just seems so cozy in them, and as soon as he gets it on he settles down.

  • I tried a nap without the sleep sack the other day and LO would NOT go to sleep.  I figure, it's no big deal and she'll get out of it when she is ready.

  • My LO has been in footie pajamas since about 4 months. She's still in them and loves them.

  • We don't use a sleep sack unless it's really cold or a blanket, she just sleeps in her PJs.  She doesn't seem to mind.
  • Now that the weather has gotten warmer, most nights they don't use their sleep sacs. They just wear PJs. They never wore the sleep sac for naps, just at night, so maybe that helped make the transition easier.

  • I go back and forth between short sleeved PJs in the sleep sack and long PJs without one.  But she's really outgrowing it, so I'm looking forward to when she's a year old and the pedi says we can give her a blanket.  She runs hot so I'm not really concerned about her kicking off the blanket at night and being too cold.  She's soon getting old enough that she can figure out she'll be warmer if she pulls it up, right?

  • I have never used a sleep sack before because DD never moved an inch during the night. . . . until recently. Now she fusses and crawls in her sleep and ends up with no covers on. It wouldn't be a problem in the summer warm weather, but we are heading to the west of Ireland for 2 months where it is freezing cold in July, especially at night. So I ordered her a sleep sack that is 18-36 months. It was hard to find, but I hope it works. She has never used one before so we'll see how it works out. I just don't think she'd be warm enough at night after crawling out of her covers.

We only use them when it is cold.  I actually just brought one to daycare today because with the air conditioning on, she'll need something extra to sleep in.  The extra large Halo sleepsacks have feet holes...

We live in WI...so in the fall I'll likely get more sleepsacks.  I don't want her kicking off a blanket and being cold.

  • He associates getting in the sleepsack with going to sleep, so I just keep buying larger ones. He tends to rotate in his sleep so blankets don't work well and footie pjs aren't enough in our climate.

  • We stopped using ours about a month ago.  DD was getting too big for the one we have so we tried it one night without it and BAM, no problem at all.  She now takes her nap and sleeps at night sleep sack free.  I never though I would see the day.  GL!

  • We stopped using them about a month ago when she started pulling up in the crib.  I didn't want her to topple over getting tangled up in the sac, so now she just wears footy pj's with nothing underneath.

  • I have never had her exclusively in a sleep sac so it hasn't been a problem for us. Some nights if it is colder, I put her in light pjs and a sleep sac, or heavier footy pjs. If its hot in her room I put her in just a diaper. She doesn't seem to be bothered either way. I haven't yet had her sleep with a blanket at night. Sometimes for naps I put a receiving blanket with her because she likes to hug it, but I only have a lovey in her crib at night. I am too worried about her wrapping the blanket around her because she moves so much.
