TTC After a Loss

Anyone want to talk about Yeast Infections??

Well me and DH decided to TTA this cycle and have his karotyping tested since all of my test came back normal.  I'm glad we did because right after O (which was early) I ended up with a yeast infection.  I was drinking POM and eating pineapple a lot the week before just in case we were going to BD.  I'm thinking maybe all that sugar caused it?

Anyway, I went and got Monistat 1 last night.  I put the ovule in before bed and it burned and itched all night, worse than the YI symptoms I had.  Now today it's not burning as bad but still itching.  Having a YI is so annoying, and now I am hoping it goes away quick!  I'm just surprised I am still itching today, does anyone have any experience with this awful stituation?

Advice needed and welcomed!

Re: Anyone want to talk about Yeast Infections??

  • YI's are the worst. I usually just use an anti-itch cream like vagisil and just wait for it to clear up on its own. The itching drives me bananas. You can try taking a probiotic supplement too.

  • I think maybe I am just being impatient.  Well atleast I thought it would feel better after the Monistat 1 by now.  I did buy the package with both the capsule and the external cream.  I was just hesitant to use it this morning because I was burning all night.  Now I wish I would have brought it with me!

I was just wondering if anyone had their symptoms get worse after the ovule and then the YI cleared up.  I don't want to have to go to the Dr's and I am going camping this weekend so that is why I am sounding so desperate Embarrassed  Just looking for some experience and advice.

    Thanks!

  • I usually pick the three day treatment because the one day one seems so quick. But, I've also had to go to the doctors a couple times because the OTC medicine wasn't fixing it. I'd give it maybe a day or so and then go in to the doctors. Hope you feel better soon!

  • I had some kind of reaction to one type of OTC YI treatment that sounds similar. It itched and burned SO badly. I don't know what happened but it was awful. And it didn't even work.

Now, when I get a YI, I just get Diflucan from my dr. It works great! I am on immunosuppressants though, so it's harder for my body to fight off stuff like this, so I usually need more than one pill.

I've had a few. I always use the 3 day or longer ovules that come with the itching cream. I had heard somewhere (and it's probably not true) that the 1 day treatment only kills 1 type of yeast but that the longer ones kill more than 1. Now that I think about that it makes me wonder how many kinds of yeast there are....I think only 1.

Meh, the 3 day usually works for me. Sometimes it does get worse before it gets better. I've also noticed that if I use the generic version of any treatment it burns while the brand name ones do not. No clue why that is.

As a weird side note you can put plain yogurt down there. The cooling will soothe the itching and burning and the probiotics in it will help increase your natural flora (or you can just eat it but where's the fun in that?)

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • I haven't had a yeast infection for many years, knock on wood, but I had themn quite often in high school and the early college years.  My doctor suggetsed the Monistat insert (not the egg), and I've had good luck with them- symptoms ususally go away within two days.  She also told me that vagisil is not so good, and in many women makes itching worse, so she recommended cortizone (the brand name), and that really worked to stop the itching while I waited for the infection to dissapear.  GL!
