Two Under 2

Soon to have 3 under 2!

For a few weeks, we will have three under 2! For some reason, it doesn't reassure me much that my dd will turn 2 shortly after they're born. I'm thrilled to have twins on the way. I'm also incredibly intimidated. I work at home and my dh works long hours away. I don't have much local help from family or friends. I'm looking for any sort of advice from moms that have been there. I know it will be a challenge, so anyone that has advice on making this transition as smooth as possible would be greatly appreciated.

This is my siggy. Love it.

  • Woah when I saw 3 under 2, I thought wow you had them really close together lol. But congrats on the twins. I wished and wished for twins, and then got Irish twins instead. I believe things would have been much easier if they had just been born at the same time. For me, my 1 year old didn't pay much mind to the baby at first, or for even the first 5 months or so. She was just kind of that thing that cried and took mommy away from her occasionally lol. But now that my baby is crawling, the big girl isn't being so nice. She's taking toys from her, biting her, telling her NOOOO when she tried to touch her. I am hopeful for you that since your daughter is older, perhaps she will be more understanding. I mean it's not all bad. My daughter does like to take diapers to the trash and bring bottles to her sister. But make sure to pay as much attention to her as you can. I had a c section so I couldn't even pick up my older daughter for 4 weeks, and that I believe left a mark. Luckily hubby was home for 6 weeks, but it wasn't the same. Now she's very clingy to me especially when I am taking care of the baby. It's the hardest thing I have ever done. Good luck to you!

That's my biggest fear. I had to have a c/s with my dd, so I will also be having one with these two. My OB is also certain that the twins will spend time in the NICU because they share one sac, they will have to come before 34 weeks. After that, the risk of cord compression or entanglement becomes much too high. It breaks my heart to think of my dd feeling unloved or ignored while I recover from surgery and have to split my time between her at home and the twins in the NICU. It will still be tough to make up for that attention even once we are home since there's no doubt two preemie newborns will need a lot of attention.

  • I hope that you have help lined up, you will need it. My second spent a week in NICU  too, breathing problems. She was delivered 2 weeks early because I had GD, and was also breech so we couldn't wait for her to get any bigger. You have a challenge ahead that's for sure. Just give your oldest tasks to help you, that should make her feel special. Like help mommy with diapers and wipes, ask her to get clothes out of drawers, you know things they like to do anyway lol. I try to get mine to put dirty clothes in the hamper and vice versa, but then they end up mixed dirty and clean haha.
