I think he touched my tonsils...

So I had a cervix check yesterday, I knew I should have opted out, but honestly curiosity got the better of me. Well, while he was cramming his entire arm up there he says "Well there's the babies head..." pauses and then says "Wow your cervix is way up by your tonsils." And you know, that's what it felt like... I feel like if he tried a little bit harder he could have poked my tonsils. Seriously, I refuse to get anymore cervix checks until I labor, and then those are going to be limited if at all possible. I am cramping ever since, back and forth between cramps up at the top of my uterus and sharp cramps/pressure in my pelvic region, all accompanied by back pain. No spotting, which is good, but the cramps seriously suck. Am I the only one who had this experience with cervix checks?

Re: I think he touched my tonsils...

  • They bothered me a lot with my first DD...but they really don't bother me at all now.  I don't blame you for not wanting them done until you are laboring, there really is no point especially for FTMs but I opt for them and will have as many as I can to monitor my progress as I labor very fast and I want to be aware of what is going on in there.

  • My doctor did the tonsil joke too, but that's what it felt like.  I had trouble walking the rest of the day.  I've opted out each time after that.

  • Ouch that sucks! Mine today was a little rough, but she said its because I have a posterior cervix. It will drop as I get closer to labour and all line up, but it was tough for her to get all the way up in there! Yikes!!

  • It can depend on who does them, too.  My first checks were when I went into preterm labor at 34w5d at the hospital.  Neither really felt like much at all.  Then a week later, I asked for another at my regular apt and my midwife shoved her arm up there and rocked her knuckles around.  It was rough and I bled a lot more before after since I already have a friable cervix.

  • I had one last week and it wasn't bad, but I've read that it can really depend on the Dr. I don't blame you for refusing more until labor!
