Co-sleepers/bedsharers: a question

DD has had some major sleep regression in the past few weeks and is now waking up a lot at night, but she will only nurse for like a minute and go back to sleep. She usually begins the night in her RnP and then after her first wakeup (around 2 am usually) she stays in bed with us for the rest of the night.

I am wondering if our sleeping is now disturbing her sleep (my husband and I both snore) and she used to sleep wonderfully when we bed shared, but now she is restless and sleeps poorly. Did anyone else experience this around this age? I am considering giving her a night in the crib to see how she does.

Re: Co-sleepers/bedsharers: a question

  • Lots of people experience an increase in night wakings around 4m regardless of where LO sleeps. You can google "four month wakeful" and see how common it is. :-) I've also read that between 9-12m a lot of babies peak in nightwaking.

I'm willing to bet it's a phase and will pass but you can try the crib to see if that helps anything or wait and see. Either way, it's not like you're married to any choice forever so if you really think something needs to change try it out and worse case scenario go back to bedsharing if it doesn't help.

My LO has gone through several changes in his sleep patterns over his brief 9m on this planet. Sometimes it's been milestones or teething, sometimes growth spurts, sometimes I have no idea why he sleeps good or bad lol.

  • Thanks for your advice! I had no idea about the four month wakeful and googled it and the first Kellymom article that came up describes my DD's eating patterns during the day to a T! It all makes so much more sense! My (babywise) friends keep pushing me to give her cereal or CIO because she was sleeping so well previously and they're telling me "she's developing bad habits and manipulating me" (which I think is total BS) so I'm glad I listened to my instincts and didn't do either of those things.

This...totally agree...esp the last paragraph.  My LO is almost 10m old and his sleep patterns have been all over the map.  I thought for a time he was sleeping poorly because he was in our bed, but just when I thought I'd never sleep again or have to start him in the crib he would sleep the night through.  GL and I'm sure you'll figure out what works best for you and your LO!  It's crazy when they throw you for a loop!
