Sign language

Has anyone been doing baby sign language yet? I don't have time to read another book, but I'm looking for a website for the basics. My niece used more, please thank you and milk I think. What signs have you used or do you plan to use?

Re: Sign language

  • I havent started yet but I have a great book that my great aunt gave me for christmas that I cant wait to read! I think I will just focus mostly on more, please, thank you and milk.?
  • We did a few signs with DD (more, milk, all done, mommy, daddy).  She has since learned a ton more from watching Baby Einstiein sign DVDs.  We have only done "all done" with DS so far.  It's hard to remember to do it all the time!

  • We used More, All Done and Milk with DS.  He used to sign All Done the instant we put him in his chair for dinner, LOL.  Pretty sure we'll use a small set again, but haven't started yet

We have a baby sign language DVD and it suggests starting with only 3 signs at first. It also suggests starting at 7 months (it says you can start earlier but baby may not actually get what you're doing yet) and it says baby will start producing signs between 7-9 months. We are using "eat" "all done" and "milk" for DS right now. The video I watched made me so excited for DS to start signing! I think babies signing is the coolest thing!!

After he starts signing back to us, we will introduce "hurt" "more" and "mom" & "dad".

  • I don't have any specific recommendations on a sight for words (it was part of our daily routine at my previous school where I taught so I used their SL curriculum to learn) but we have started with "all done" and are moving on the "more."

Eventually we will move on to words such as please, thank you, mom, dad, milk, eat, drink, tired, hot, cold. Six months is prime time to start sign language though.

  • been doing some key words since he was born.  Hungry/eat, more, all done, diaper, bed time, bath.  We've been more consistant in the past month.  hope to see some results in the next few months.

I've started. I didn't really buy anything. I've been using a free app on my phone, (I have Android). There's 2 apps I've downloaded the free version of:"Baby Sign and Learn" and "My Smart Hands". My smart hands is my favorite. They show you quit a few basic signs. My mom also found a couple books to read with him, one came with flashcards, which I thought was nice, but I honestly don't use them very much. I just try to use the signs whenever I'm talking to DS.

So far I've only been using milk, mommy, daddy, and eat. I use milk the most, everytime I feed him I say "bottle" and make the sign. I didn't want to start with too many, I figured once he starts to recognize them I can add more. I'll probably add more, please, and thank you next

After 2years TTC and 1yr,2mo waiting for an adoption match, our blessing is here!
