TTC After a Loss

Hypothyroidism?

I just read an article that said low temperatures can be a sign of hypothyroidism, and that your basal temps should be somewhere between 97.8 and 98.2. Umm... my LP temps are around that (but only with progesterone supps) and my FP temps are nowhere near that.

Where do most of your temps range? Has anyone been diagnosed with hypothyroidism or looked into this further? Thinking about calling my doctor tomorrow, but don't want to sound like too much of a hypochondriac (though, I totally am... Embarrassed)

ETA: FP, not FF. Gotta keep my acronyms straight.

Re: Hypothyroidism?

  • I've never heard anything about temps, but I have hypo (though levels are normal under current meds), and my temps ranged 96.8-97.7 last cycle.

  • Its worth looking into. I don't temp anymore but before I was diagnosed and treated for hypo my temps were low...ranging from 96.1 (before O) to 97.6 (after O). I think TCOYF covers this topic and says continuous low temps can be a sign of hypo but not always.

  • I just had my Thyroid checked last month and everything turned out good. My temps are very close to yours in both FP & LP. I take Prometrium in my LP too. If you look at my charts prior to Prometrium I barely ever got to 98. It's just a simple blood test. ;)

  • I've never heard anything about the temps, but it wouldn't hurt to get your thyroid checked next time you're at the doctors.

Make sure you get the full panel and not just the one or two tests they usually do. If not, your tests can come back clear and you could miss a diagnosis.

  • My temps run in the 96's pre-O and low to mid-97s post-O. I've thought about asking about it but I keep reading conflicting things on if temps really do indicate it or not. I don't have many of the other symptoms. Still debating if I'm going to bring this up to my doc or not this week.

  • My temps have gone up (both pre and post O) since I started my thyroid medication, so that could be an issue. There are so many issues that can arise from hypothyroidism that I still can't believe it's not part of a routine physical. Depressing.
