Pregnant after IF

Bronchitus while PAIF

Anyone out there have bronchitus while pregnant? I'm afraid to take any meds bc I'm still in the first trimester, and my Dr suggested waiting this out a little longer before filling any scrips just in case I can improve without meds. I assume most pregnant women are reticent to take meds, but especially having gone through so much to get to this point, I'm worried about taking anything (at the same time I'm concerned about being sick during the first tri). Anyone else been here?

Re: Bronchitus while PAIF

  • I don't have bronchitis, but I've has a cold for the past two weeks that I can't seem to shake (sore throat, stuffy nose, cough).

I consulted with the REs office and they said that I could do cough drops and a few other OTC options, but as long as I didn't have a fever, it was okay. I hope you feel better soon!

  • I don't have bronchitis (that I know of), but have been battling cough, drainage, ear ache, etc for the last 4 days.  I called OB today and they called me in Zyrtec D and advised to take Robitussin DM.  There's a list of meds they gave me that are 'safe', but they too recommend you don't take any medicine in first tri unless absolutely necessary.

Are you running any fever?  If so, you'll want to make sure you keep that down.

  • I had an ear infection the day before my FET. Then a week later I wasn't feeling any better, much worse actually, and went back to the doctor. I had bronchitis. They changed up my antibiotic to a stronger one that was still safe in pregnancy. I was sure I had coughed my embies out but nope, I'm pregnant! I was a little worried about taking something during the 2ww but my doctors explained that it was better for everyone if I did. If I didn't take anything and let my body fight it, it would be taking away from what the embies needed to do their thing.

Hope this helps and hope you feel better soon.

  • Yes, I had what was either a TERRIBLE cold virus or bronchitis (bad sore throat and laryngitis for a week that turned into a respiratory infection with a bad cough for two weeks). I went to the dr. after a week, and she said it seemed like a virus, rather than a bacterial infection. She told me to take four days off from work and to rest and drink lots of fluids. She also gave me a prescription for a z-pack (antibiotics) and told me to fill it if I didn't start to recover in a week (at that point, it would have likely turned into a bacterial infection). I did start getting better without the meds, but I would have been totally fine taking them if necessary. The z-pack is safe for pregnant women.

Also, the dr. reassured me that the sickness doesn't hurt the pregnancy in any way...it just makes the poor mom miserable.

    Twins November 2012!

  • I had bronchitis and pneumonia for four weeks. I was miserable and took the z-pack as soon as it was prescribed.

  • I had mild bronchitis in April and it was so bad that I was confined to my couch for 3 days straight. I'm glad I went to urgent care after hours when I did because the doc found fluid in my lungs even when the throat culture came back negative. I got the z-pack prescription as well. felt better about 3-4 days after taking it.

Try taking a probiotic too, in order to prevent your stomach from being upset from the z-pack. Hope you feel better soon.
