TTC After a Loss

Favorite BBT?

I've never temped before but since we are considering waiting a few months to TTC I thought maybe I could practice a few months to get the hang of it.   I am, to my detriment at times, very type A.  I like plans and lists and this whole TTC thing makes me crazy anyways.  I figured temping will give me more info about my cycle and something to do daily rather than twiddle my thumbs and go crazy..even though I've read your posts that temping makes others MORE crazy :)
I've read good things about the BD BBT, I think?  Just looking for recommendations.
I'm still waiting to see if this is actually AF, so I'd be cycle day 3 today but not sure that would totally screw things up if I started a few days later.
TIA!

Re: Favorite BBT?

  • I hated the BD BBT. It beeps every 2 seconds. It's supposed to assure you it's positioned correctly, but I just found it annoying. It also only reads to the tenth of a degree. Not that it's necessary to read to the hundredth to detect a thermal shift, but I like that temping to the hundredth degree lets you spot a "favorite temps" pattern easier. Sometimes when thermometers are on the fritz they'll read the same temp over and over again (and my BD therm did start giving favorite temps after a while). When you're only temping to the tenth of a degree, it's easy to wonder if it's accurate or not when this happens. With temping to the hundredth degree it would be HIGHLY unlikely to get the same temp multiple times in a row. I use the Mabis brand (from Amazon or Walmart) now and I like it much better.

I'm confused by when you say you're still waiting to see if this is actually AF - are you just spotting now? If so, you wouldn't count CD1 until the first day of actual flow, anyway. Either way, it won't screw anything up by starting CD3, since you'll still have several temps before you O anyway. You just need to have enough to detect a pattern when you do have a temp shift.

    HTH!

ETA: Just read your other post and remembered your story regarding whether or not it's CD1. Sorry for spacing - and I even responded to your original post! Bad bumpie - forgive me? :( Either way, I think you're just fine starting temping now!

  • bananers-of course I forgive you!  I just had my u/s and bloodwork so we're waiting to decide if it's retained or not or AF.  Hoping for AF so we can move the fluck on from this m/c.  I'm OVER it!
    Thanks for you help!

  • Hmmm. I tried charting a while back and got super frustrated. I had the target brand BBT thermometer. After a few days of what seemed like random temps, I tested 3 or 4 times in a row one morning, like within a few seconds and got totally different temps. I thought it was me, but maybe it was the thermometer. I'm going to blame it on that anyway. I never could figure it out so I just went back to using OPKs.

Do the CVS/Walgreens ones not beep?  Or only beep once at the end?
