TTC after 35

Hi from a senior and started first stim today!

Hi Ladies,

I used to post here ALL the time, and love this board, but have been around less frequently while gearing up for IVF and taking time off (unexpected due to a darn cyst). Anyhow, this morning as I was shooting up for my first ever IVF I realized I want to post here again - I miss you ladies!

So here I am again, doing 3 vials Gonal-F/1 vial Menopur morning and night for the next 2 days, and then lowering down to 2 vials Gonal-F/1 vial menopur morning and night for the rest of the week. Does that seem like A LOT of meds? Even the nurse kept mentioning - "wow, he's starting you off really strong and then pulling back."

My other worry is that I am over-supressed because I had to be on BCP for 6.5 weeks due to the cyst. But I know these worries are just little flutters in my head for now.

In any case, back to work and acupuncture in an hour, but hello again and good luck to everyone here!

ttc since 2/2010 ~
me (36): Hypothyroid (on Levothroid), low vit. d, borderline/high fsh (day 3: between 7-10) (day 10: 13 during CCCT), AFC: 14

Diagnosis:possible DOR and/or unexplained + elevated NK cells + MTHFR (C677T - one copy)

  • Hey Solar! Nice to see you, and I'm so happy for you that you're getting started! It does sound like a high dose, and kind of stinks for your stomach that it's spread out, but I'm sure you'll do fine. I hope that the extra -long suppression just gave your ovaries time to recoup and get ready for what's coming.

Looking forward to your updates - good luck!

  • Welcome back.  I am doing 450IU Goanl F and 150 Menopur on my upcoming cycle.  I did not respond well last time and they had to keep uping my dose.  I don't know about the BC because I am only on it for 19 days this time.

    Good luck!

  • Yay! for the cyst finally dissipating. I haven't been the infertility board as much since my cycle was cancelled.

I don't know what 3 vials of gonal-F is, but, yeah, does seem high. All you can do is trust the RE. They know what they are doing.

Good luck with the cycle! I look forward to hearing your updates.

  • Good Luck! I would imagine it's probably better to start out high and then drop down if needed than try to play catch up. I've been doing 225 but I imagine if we do an IVF cycle it would be much higher.

I've been annoyed because RE keeps telling me 225 is a very high dosage but if you read the damn package on the gonal it says 225 is the recommended dose for anyone 35 over so I feel like he's twisting it to make me feel like I'm a poor responder.

  • I'm not sure how many units 3 vials of Gonal F is (I was on 225 iu's Gonal F and 225 iu's Menopur, so 450 iu's total).  I don't think I responded well at that dosage, next time I'm going to ask if I need to go higher.  It's probably easier to start off high and back off as needed.  Good luck with your cycle!

That's weird! Why would he do that? From what I've read of your posts you seem to be a pretty good responder usually.

I am assuming that's right - that they want to get all the follicles going early and then start backing off. I just hope my eggs don't stimulate too fast. Erg - always something to worry about...

    Ticker warning...

Hi solar! How exciting that you are starting stims. Since you aren't doing the Lupron thing, hopefully suppression won't be a problem.

I started stims on a pretty low dose due to the study I was in, they had to double it after almost no action after 5 days. So perhaps starting with a bang will be a good thing. When will they start monitoring you?

Amanda - Look at your squash sized baby! That is so awesome! I lurk and watch your progress regularly. ;)

I will go in after 5 days for the first monitoring appointment (Sat. AM) which is also weird since for IUI's I was there almost every other day.  I will just hope that all goes well in ovary-ville until then.

Thanks for checking in! It's great to see you.
