Anyone have this gate?

Dreambaby retractable gate

I have wrought iron railings around my stairway.  I can not use any type of pressure mounted system on them, they are not strong enough to take the abuse.  I think that this will work If I have mounting boards attached.  Plus I think I will love that it retracts.  I have read the reviews(amazon and target) and I think I am going to buy it.  It is approved for the top of the stairs, although kids have escaped, but it sounded like they were installed incorrectly.

  • It rolls up into itself? That is nice so when  you don't need it it's not in the way.

Exactly and there is no bar to trip over.

I was looking at that in the One Step Ahead magazine. My brain started to think of all the negatives: is it sturdy in the middle? if he leans on it or pushes it will it move?

I have read about 50 reviews, and it has stood up to 60 pound chocolate labs.  I think the biggest concern is that you install it correctly. If you have baseboards you need the adapters and it needs to be very low to the floor so they can not squeeze under.  You also need to buy your own hardware because there's is cheap and wall anchors if you are installing it in drywall.

I don't have this one and to be honest it just doesn't seem safe to me. That middle part would concern me and it seems like my toddler would be able to climb over that in a second. This is just IMO though.

We have this one at the top of our stairs. It's easily mounted, you can use one hand to open and close it and there is no bar across that you can trip over it. We have a second one at the bottom of the stairs as well. https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3312385

Thanks, but we can not have anything pressure mounted.  I purchased it about an hour ago, we will see how it goes.  From reviews and videos I've seen it is very taunt, and it is taller than most gates.
