TTC with existing high blood pressure....anyone else?

Hi!  My husband and I are ready to start TTC, however I am a bit nervous.  We are both 37 and last year I was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure.  I was put on meds and have worked hard to eliminate caffeine, reduced my alcohol intake, reduce my sodium intake and eat healthier.  I am overweight, but exercise almost daily.  I have gotten a new RX for Methydopa and plan to make the switch over in a week.  I'm nervous as it took months for me to find a medication that controlled my BP and I'm hesitant to switch drugs (but know I have to).  I'm worried about side effects of the new RX or worse bp spikes.  Then to add to my worries, I worry about once I get pregnant (God willing) how the hbp may effect the pregnancy.  My doctor says to relax, and that he would be more concerned if I was going into this with my bp not controlled like it is now.  Has anyone been through this or going through this now?  Most of my friends had babies younger than 35 and didn't have the bp issue to worry about so I don't really have anyone to talk to this about.

I have had issues on and off with blood pressure in the past, mainly when I was on the pill. For now I'm not on medication, but she had told me there are many that are safe to use while ttc and the benefits of taking far out weigh any risk or side effects.

I was concerned with both my pregnancies about my bp becoming an issue, but my OB said it's really hard to predict who will have issues, you can go into a pregnancy w/ high BP and it will normalize or someone who's never had any issues could all the sudden develop high BP, you just have to wait and see. I think your Dr is correct, if you go into it with it under control your starting in a very good place. Good luck!
