Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What parenting book are you reading now?

I haven't read a parenting book since I was pregnant and I'm thinking about reading one now - maybe more geared toward the further and toddlers... So, what parenting book are you reading and why do you like it?

And if anyone if reading a really good non-fiction I'm always on the search for those as well!

Re: What parenting book are you reading now?

  • I am currently reading Toddler 411, which is the follow up to Baby 411. I still reference Baby 411 now, but am working in Toddler 411 from cover to cover. I like these books because they are a light hearted (when appropriate) and to the point presentation of issues. The authors have their own opinions, but they present more ideas of give reasons why they think something is better than another. For example, with sleep training (in baby 411), they reviewed several of the different methods, gave each a grade from A-D and stated why each grade was given (in their opinion). So if you have a different parenting philosophy than they do, you can take that into consideration of their review.

I haven't gotten too far into Toddler 411, I have just made it through the discipline chapter, but so far I find it very interesting. They are breaking down information and adivice based on age, from 1 year up until 4 or 5 years. They also include an extensive discussion on developement, which I find fascinating.

One of the authors is a pediatritian and I'm not sure about the other lady...I know she is not a doctor though.

As for my fiction reads: I am currently enjoying Mary Higgins Clark's new mystery :). It is a bit different from her normal books and surrounds a ancient religious scroll to add a different flavor.

  • I'm reading "Love and Logic Magic for Early Childhood" that a bumpie recommended. I didn't finish it, but so far I like it. I got a lot of ideas for how to approach parenting issues. There are lots of little stories/examples.

My favourite parenting book recently has been How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk.  It's definitely too early for a lot of the methods, but some sections will apply soon!
