Babies: 9 - 12 Months

she hardly chews.

anyone else having a hard time teaching LO to chew?? i figure eventually she'll get it, but it's sometimes painful to watch her just swallow things whole. and yes, i'm cutting things small enough to where it's not a huge concern. i try to show her myself how to chew, she's just not really getting it. she basically inhales her food.

anyone have any ideas?

  • Give her something finger shaped. Like a sweet potato fry or a piece of penne.

Or puffs? Does she not chew those?

  • We always make sure to eat together and we did not introduce foods to "chew" until the baby mimicked chewing her puree's, puffs and yougurt melts.  Than we moved to stage 3 foods which had some pieces in the puree.

Once we were comfortable with her ability to chew, than we offered her peices of food.

Maybe take a step back to purees and wait until she is ready?

she does chew puffs. i think she just gets so excited to eat that she inhales it. i'm nervous about something bigger than bite-sized because i think she'd just shove the whole thing in her mouth, lol.
