So my mil and I took my dd to the dr yesterday because she had been running a temp. Turns out just to be viral and said to do motrin and Tylenol for the times. She gave us the dose for each for her certain weight. Went to cvs they didn't have children's Motrin. Went to walgreens. They said they aren't carrying the children's Motrin its the generic brand which is ibuprofen but told my mil it's the exact same thing as the Motrin so I didn't check the box because I figured it was the same thing. I had to go to work in the afternoon. I went to go look at the box in the middle of the night and it's the concentrated drops. Oh my!! That means she probably got 2 times the normal dose. After looking at it I couldn't sleep. She acts fine but I know it causing bleeding. Calling the dr as soon as I can. Anyone else have this happen? I haven't given it to her since. Just scared its going to cause some kind of bleeding ugh!! I'm a bad mom I didn't check it!
Re: I can't believe I didn't check.. Ugh
You are not a bad mom!! Glad LO is fine!
Glad you got your reassurance!. And know that you aren't the first, nor will be the last as long as they are on the market. Our Ped actually mentioned a couple of months ago that "they" (whomever "they" is) are trying to get the infant drops pulled off the shelves because so many mis-dose their kids. Hope your LO feels better soon!
Yes! I always always check when I get a new medicine I always ask the mix like the 50 mg per 1.25 ml but I didn't buy it so I didn't check it and I figured if the pharmacy told my MIL it was ok and the same thing as children's Motrin so I thought it was fine but from now on I'll be checking it carefully. Poison control said she would have to have 9 times the normal amount to cause harm.
My pedi gave me the dose for the non concentrated well I didn't go in to get the medicine my mil did and then I went to work. Anyways the pharmacy told her it was the exact same thing as the children's Motrin but its not it's concentrated and the nitty isn't. I didn't check because I figured if the pharmacy said it was the exact same thing then it must be. I never actually gave it to her it was My mil. I looked at the box that night after I got home and noticed. Anyways my mil in said she spit out of what she tried to give her so she didn't get as much as I thought she did
Nitty is motrin sorry
