Moby -Hug Hold

When Eli was  4 weeks we flew to Indiana and I wore him in the cradle hold at the airport, on the plane, and at the other airport, both ways. He did great! We will be flying again in 3 weeks when he will be 16 weeks, and I'm trying to find a new 'hold' for him as he hates cradle now!

We've done the hug hold at home a few times, and he likes it ok, but I have a few questions.

1. His head goes right under my chin, is that right? It's kind of uncomfortable.

2. Where do his arms go? He is trying to rest his chest on them and push himself up., like army crawling. Should I wrap them around my body? I tried to do ths, but he didnt like it too well and wanted to chew on them.

3. He's still working on new/head control, and is a tad wobbly. Is this ok in this position? Also, in the picture in the instruction guide, the baby has her head laying on moms  (high) chest.. He pretty much refuses to lay his head on me, which means his head is kind of wobbly. Does your baby do the same thing? I was hoping he might sleep, but that's seeming unlikely.

Is there another hold that might be better for him? I didn't see any in the guide. What are your thoughts on the ring slings? Better for babies around his age? he really enjoys looking around! Thank you!

Re: Moby -Hug Hold

  • We are flying this week with LO at 13 weeks, so I am interested to see this answer, too!

I can tell you I just started using the hug hold with him this week, because he's gotten too long to have his legs in the pockets of the Moby. I do have to put a hand behind his head occasionally. He's really steady most of the time, but he takes a rest every now and then and gets really wobbly. Like your LO, he wants his hands by his face, and wants his head off of my chest (until he's ready to sleep, which he almost always does when I wear him).

  • You might have him too high. The top of his head should be close enough for you to kiss but not jammed under your chin. It should not be uncomfortable. My DS sometimes has his arms up toward my shoulders, sometimes hanging down. Try googling pics of babywearing to see what positions their LOs are typically in! Its OK if he's wobbly. He will rest his head on your chest if he gets tired or its bothering him. Just make sure the fabric is up over his shoulders to offer shoulder support... that will also help head stability.

    1. His head goes right under my chin, is that right? It's kind of uncomfortable.  It shouldn't be right under your chin, it should be a little lower.  His head should be on your chest, close enough to kiss - but only if you tilt your head down.

    2. Where do his arms go? He is trying to rest his chest on them and push himself up., like army crawling. Should I wrap them around my body? I tried to do ths, but he didnt like it too well and wanted to chew on them. My guy like his hands on my chest.  It's like vertical tummy time.  His hands can go wherever is comfortable for him.

    3. He's still working on new/head control, and is a tad wobbly. Is this ok in this position? Also, in the picture in the instruction guide, the baby has her head laying on moms  (high) chest.. I was hoping he might sleep, but that's seeming unlikely.  I may not be helpful with this because my guy loves to sleep in his carriers.  But again, this is like tummy time and a great chance to improve neck strength.  When he gets tired, he'll lay it down.
