Crib to bed transition

So lately, instead of sleeping in his crib, Nicholas has either requested to sleep on the floor or on his travel cot.   Today DH decided to turn his crib into a toddler bed.  Nicholas still requested the floor.    Is it a phase?  It's just weird seeing him randomly on the floor in the middle of his room.   I even offered to put the crib mattress on the floor and he said no.  

Is this a phase?  Will he sleep on the floor forever? (Okay forever is a long time, but still).

We didn't have any issues when we converted them but now they are both in a "I'm scared of the dark, I want to sleep in your bed, please come and sleep with me on the floor" stage.  I hope it passes for you soon, bedtime has been ROUGH here : )

I don't have a toddler yet but it seems they do odd things like that. 

I guess if he wants to sleep on the floor what's the harm, right?

Eli sometimes does this right now we are just getting hsi toddler room set up and he still has the nursery so he has 2 rooms hahah But he would most of the time rather lay on a rug in the living room ....i think it is just the fact that he's not really "going to bed".   Like I'll tell him "ok we're gonna get ready for bed now"  and he'll grab his blanket and lay on the floor in the living room and its like, "but mom i promise I'll be good and lay down right here and you don't need to put me in bed"
