TTC After a Loss

SA results are in :(

And they are not good.  1.9 million, 27% motility and 17% morph.  DH also got blood drawn today to check testosterone levels and is set to do a repeat SA next month.  I just faxed the results to my doc, so I'm hoping we'll have a follow-up to discuss the SA results plus my HSG results sometime next week, but I'm not holding my breath...

I really thought that knowing something was wrong would make me feel better, like in a "well since we know what we're up against, we can fix this" kind of way.  But I don't feel better.  In fact, I cried when he told me the results (good thing it was via text!).  And I really think it's more because I know how fragile his ego is and how much this is certainly crushing him right now.  He's so hard on himself, and I know he's feeling like it's all his fault that we don't have a baby right now.  Also doesn't help that we know going in we'll be OOP on all testing and treatments and just blew all our savings replacing our home's A/C...

Ugh, what a great way to start the weekend Crying

Have you intro'd on 3T yet?  I know there's many ladies here that are going through IF treatments/testing but 3T will have more ladies who are facing a MFI Dx.  I'm not trying to 'push you out', just another place for support Smile

I'm so sorry you got such heart breaking news.  The good news is that he has sperm.  As long as he has sperm, you have options in order to have a biological child.  I know IF treatments are expensive and an added stress that no one wants.  All I can say is try to take it one day at a time. I'm sorry. MFI really, really sucks.

FWIW, you might try having him take a supplement for fertility. MH's first SA was just about like yours, and I immediately ordered some Fertilaid. The results were better--he went from 3 million/mL to 18 million/mL. Still not great, but much, much better.

Hopefully the urologist will have more answers for you soon.

Ditto all this. There are a few ladies who are dealing with MFI and they can help answer some of your questions.

Thanks for the hugs gals, you ladies seriously are the best!

((hugs)) I'm sorry. It's hard, but you are right that it's better to know so you can face it. And I know how hard a loss is, but I find comfort in using that to assure myself - "it's happened once and it can happen again". I think you would like it on 3T - I split my time between here and there. It's a great way to get support from both sides of what you're facing.

Exactly this. I'm sorry. Big (((hugs)))

  • I am lurking but is this his first SA?  I just want to share that DH has now had about 12 SA for IUI's and such and we have had a couple of scares.

HIs first SA was abysmal.  Like a million sperm with 3% motility.  We were HORRIFIED and terrified.  We were so discouraged we took about 6 months off and went to start with another RE again and that time, his SA was nearly perfect.  He has a varicocele so we had been expecting the worst.  I've been pg twice with injectibles/IUI.

I'm not trying to blow smoke up your ass or anything but just know his guys can have an off week here and there.

  • ((Hugs)) I can relate to how you are feeling. My DH was DX with MFI in November.

The best advice I received was to make sure that I reassured DH that I still loved him and that we would get through this together. I didn't realize how upset DH was at first and I was pretty angry as well, constant reassurance helped him get past the initial shock of the news and start thinking of a plan.
