TTC After a Loss

RE update

Hi ladies. I went to the RE this morning for CD2 bloodwork and an ultrasound. It went ok, but I've been stuck four times in the last two days and both days had to have the blood draw out of my hand. I'm a total wimp. This afternoon I heard from my CNM who said that my beta level is <2 so that's good because it means my bloodwork this morning should be ok.

I also found out if I do get pregnant again that the RE should be able to see me until 8 weeks if they clear it with my insurance first. I really hope that's the case and that I'll eventually get pregnant again.

My HSG is scheduled for next Friday. Does anyone have any advice or words of wisdom?

I have no advice but just want to offer you (((hugs))) and support. I'm glad to hear that you're under the care of an RE. Let's hope they can help move you forward!

As for the HSG - take 600mg of Advil about an hour beforehand and bring a pad with you bc you might have some spotting or leaking afterward.

Yea for good bloodwork! I'm glad your beta came down.  As for the HSG I didn't think it was too bad.  I know everybody has different experiences with it but I took a 800 mg Ibuprophen before hand and only had slight discomfort through the procedure. I ended up going back to work right after too. My tubes were open but I have heard if they are not than it can be more painful.  Good luck and I hope it goes well!

Thanks for the advice! I wouldn't have thought of the pad so that's really helpful!

I'm not trying to scare you but I had the HSG done on Monday and it was incredibly painful.  I wish I would have asked DH to come with me for comfort.  Just be prepared in case it does hurt a lot.  The good thing is that it is pretty quick so if it does hurt you it won't be for too long.  Good luck!

Thanks for the cautious warning. I'm really hoping DH is off work because I had to go alone this morning and didn't love that even though I wasn't having anything painful done. My mom said she would go with me if DH can't, but honestly I would rather have my hubby for this.

This was my experience too.  I was glad that I had my mom there to drive me home.

It sounds like you are in good hands.  Glad you have a plan and will be under your RE's care.  My RE typically releases patients to their OB between 8 and 10 weeks.

  • Glad your appointment went well!  My RE also covers pregnancy (up to 10-12 weeks) for close monitoring, which I am looking forward to!

As far as the HSG, I've had two.  One was super painful, cramping for a day and bleeding (with my OBGYN).  #2 was with my RE, minor cramping only during the procedure then I was fine.  Both times I took 800mg ibuprofen about an hour beforehand.  Good luck- you'll do great!

  • You'll get used to needle sticks really quickly going to an RE. I think my record is 6 sticks over 4 days. Good luck with the HSG - I have mine on Monday.

    Good luck tomorrow!

I've had a few of these.  One HUGE benefit is that it improves your chances of conception by 20% in the two cycles following the procedure, because it actually causes your tubes to dilate, allowing more room for the egg to travel through.

I second the advil and the pad, and if someone can drive you home it's worth arranging.  Some people have an easier time than others, but if you're one of the ones that has some bad cramping (I was!) then it's helpful to not have to worry about how you're getting home.

    *hugs*

Oooh this is exciting! I'll take a little pain to be more fertile lol.
