what do you do..when sick

I have been under the weather for a few days with an earache. I cant sleep in and have to take care of the little guy too. So I have been struggling with keeping him happy and not feeling guilty. What do you do when you are sick? I dont have anyone to help out either.

  • Make sure the baby is taken care of, but take it easy.  If it means we sort of hang out in front of the tv, and nap a lot, that's what happens.  Let the other stuff go that can be let go.

  • I've struggled with this a few times since DS has been born. I just push on...there's no other choice. If I was throwing up DH would probably have to take off work.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • Being sick is the hardest thing to do as a mom, ugh!

Don't feel guilty. Do only what must be done. The rest can wait until you feel better.

  • I had stomach flu two days this week. I layed on floor next to his jumperoo. He isn't easily content unless he has constant movement. I had to call dh to come home since I physically couldn't stand without puking. Next day MIL came which was more stress than relaxation.

  • I had a 24hr bug a few weeks ago, and thankfully my nanny was able to stay late until DH could get home.  I couldn't even stand up without feeling nauseous and wanting to puke.  If finding some help isn't an option, I agree with pp, try to take it easy and just hang out on the couch if you have to.  Also try to keep drinking fluids, you want to get better, not worse.

Yea I just keep pushing on... Each tiem I've been sick, it is because DS gave it to me. Probably bringing things home from day care. I did have to make DH come home early from work one day cuz I was throwing up so bad. That was the only time I couldn't push myself through it. I'm sick right now actually - with what I think is a Sinus infection. Just taking whatever drugs are considered safe for breastfeeding & pushing through.
