I just don't know what else to try. It has been about 2 months since she started this. I realize that it is a stage, but she just won't get past it. I have tried ignoring it, peek-a-boo, talking to her as I walk away, etc....
The worst is while I am trying to cook dinner. She hangs on me and when I move from the sink to the stove (about 2 or 3 feet) you swear the world is ending and I just beat her. Even if I put her in her high chair with something to snack on while I'm cooking dinner she does this. She hangs on me while I use the bathroom and when I stand up from the toilet you swear I'm leaving her there.
I am a SAHM and she spends the day with me, but I have NEVER held her all the time because I didn't want her to develop this issue.
I am pregnant again and I am just wondering what the heck am I going to do when DD2 gets here??
I need suggestions on what to try!
Re: Separation anxiety?
I have had success in first sitting with DD and engaging her in an activity (building blocks, playing with the activity table) before walking away. Sometimes she cries for a minute, but I don't rush to get her. She usually stops and goes back to what she was doing. It doesn't work everytime though.
That's all I've got. GL!
My DD went through this right before she figured out how to crawl really well. Now that she is crawling well and is able to investigate the world independently she does much better. I'm able now to work in the kitchen while she plays with the toys in her toybox or plays with the magnets on the fridge. We are both much happier. This too shall pass!
Thanks for responding. I've tried playing with her too, but honestly if I am playing with her and walk away it just makes it worse. SIGH!
My DD has been crawling since 6 months 2 days old and she started walking about a month or so ago. She still primarily crawls, but walks a lot too. She is a very active 9 month old. She can follow me around just fine, but still freaks out if my chair even creeks like I'm going to get up. I sure hope it passes soon because she is starting to drive me crazy. LOL!
