Baby Carrier

Just wondering what your guys' favorite baby carrier is. i'm looking into getting one but I am unsure of which one to get. I would mostly be for around the house and for grocery shops and things. Also it needs to be very accomidating so that my husband can wear it too and we have very different body shapes. I am 5 foot nothing 120lbs (before pregnancy) where he is over 6 feet and 240 lbs, Any suggestions?

Re: Baby Carrier

  • We love a combination of the Moby and the Ergo. Moby is great for the first 3 months or so. It's snuggly and comforting and after the quick learning curve is super easy and versatile. My tip is that if you want to wear it while out (grocery store etc) then you put it on before leaving home and then just slide baby in when you get to your destination.

We love the Ergo after 3 months or so (good head control). You don't need the infant insert (although we still tuck one leg inside so she doesn't have to straddle yet). The Ergo still works great for my 2 year old, so it's a long term investment and super easy to put on and take off. It does require adjusting when sharing it, but all the buckles are just easy to slide bigger or smaller (like any backpack straps) so it's really no big deal to adjust.

Also, with this combination one person can technically wear the toddler and the baby if necessary.

  • We have the Baby Bjorn and we both use it. This has, by far, been my favorite. I never liked any of the wraps and the Ergo seemed complicated when I tested it out. I just found the Bjorn easy, comfortable, and simple. Love it.
  • I'd definitely recommend an Ergonomic carrier, and not a Bjorn or other "crotch-dangling" carrier.  Here's some good info on why:

Some good ones to look into are Ergo, Beco, or Boba.

You might also look into a Mei Tai carrier which is similar to the ones listed above, but you tie the straps rather than click/buckle them so it's versatile for all body sizes and not adjusted to one person each time (although my H and I both use our Beco and our Ergo all the time and they're very quick and easy to adjust).

If you don't have somewhere you can go to try them on, you can check out some YouTube videos online to get a feel for how they all work.  And Amazon really does make returns pretty easy.

We have the Boba carrier and have been very pleased with it. It properly aligns baby's hips and as PP said is not a "crotch dangler" like the Bjorn.

Boba, Ergo, Beco, are all wonderful brands that allow safe baby wearing. I'd avoid the Bjorn if at all possible though. I've heard too many horror stories about children needing physical therapy in order to repair the damage to their hips from the Bjorn and carriers of the like.

Ditto.  We love our Boba!  DH takes it with him when he takes DD anywhere because he prefers it to the stroller.  I'm 5'6" and 105 pounds and DH is 5'8" and 150 pounds, and it fits us both with no issue (with lots of room for adjustments).

I agree with these 2! I'm 5'3 & about 125 pre-pg, & MH is 6'4 225. The Boba fits us both really well. Its really easy to adjust & wear, & there's no issue with crotch dangling. They also have very unisex colors/designs so MH (anti-girly anything) wears it without feeling weird.

If you plan on babywearing a lot, I would look into mei tai's & wraps because they're more versatile. Also, I'm not 100% sure about a Boba with a newborn. I'd have to look it up. Wraps & many mei tais are newborn-friendly.
