Birth Control and Prenatal Vitamins

My future husband and I are getting married July 20th 2012 (so close!!) and we have decided that after that and once my birth control patches run out (apx at the end of this August) we want to start trying for our first child.

Now I just read that one should take the prenatal vitamins at least 12 weeks before trying for a baby. My question is, is it safe to start taking prenatal vitamins now while on the patch?

Re: Birth Control and Prenatal Vitamins

  • Of course. There's nothing in them that could hurt you. Heck, men could even take them. It has nothing to do with your hormonal status. Good luck TTC. :)

  • My last BC pill will be on May 30th (when my prescription runs out too, hehe) and I just started taking prenatal vitamins last week.  It's good to be prepared!
  • its good to start taking them as soon as you decide you are going to TTC!

  • Yep!  Prenatal vitamins don't have anything to do with hormones, it's just a more concentrated dose of vitamins than most multis.  If your prenatals hurt your stomach as they do mine, my doctor said it was perfectly fine to take a regular multi that was easy on my stomach as long as I was taking my folic acid supplement.  Good luck!
