TTC after 35

How does your husband react to your fertile window?

Is he laid back? serious? Doesn't even notice?

Mine goes all serious. It kind of drives me crazy. He wants to know exactly what are the best days, how many times, etc? He can't accept that predicting ovulation is not an exact science. To complicate things, we have moderately severe MFI, so every day is not an option. I have to say unsatisfying things like "If I knew I'd ovulate on X day, then Y would be best, but since earlier is possible, Z may be better, but I won't know until it would be too late." This is, of course, very romantic.

Re: How does your husband react to your fertile window?

  • That would drive me crazy, too.

MH would want to BD if he was in a coma, so he loves my fertile window because I'm more likely to acquiesce-- even if I only consent to a "quickie." I'm the one who pays attention to my fertile windows because these days, it's all I care about, it seems.

  • Ugh.  Mine gets all serious too.  I tried to put the moves on him once a few days before expected ovulation and he worried that his boys would be depleted for the IUI.  Still got what I wanted but he was so concerned!!

  • This is only our second cycle and our first really really trying so I will be curious to see how he reacts next time around. Considering we dtd five times this week which is a lot more than usual, I imagine he will run and hide next month.
Me:39 Dx LPD, Fibroid, AMA and all that goes with that. H:37 Dx low motility and low morphology. TTC since 3/12. Clomid 8/12 and 9/12: BFN. 11/12 on a break for Myomectomy sched. 11/26. Resume TTC early 2013.
  • I think my DH gets a little stressed out with the extra pressure to "perform".  I try not to tell him when I'm about to ovulate, but usually this is the only time I initiate sex, so well, it's hard not to hide that it's BD time.

I think at my house it's me who has the problem! By the time our Window comes around I'm so tired of thinking about it and informing him of the timing and my temp and filling him in (just to keep him in the loop) that I completely shut down and DH is having to remind me what we are about.  Poor thing has to put up with the reminders and then has to remind me!  He only does that so we don't miss our shot because otherwise I'd be upset and more anxious next month!

Same here Kat- I thought I was supplying a reasonable amt of info, but not inundating. After a convo last nite, I misjudged the level. So, currently trying to sensitively suss out the balance. I really feel bad for putting undue stress on DH.

  • I have no idea how to handle it anymore, DH totally stresses himself out but he also needs to mentally prepare so I have to give him a heads up. Plus by now he's kind of figured out when I'm going to be ovulating on his own. Sometimes things work out fine, sometimes not so much.

The worst is the IUI's because we're instructed to BD the night of the IUI and the next morning, at 45 DH doesn't quite have the stamina he used to have. He was pounding glasses of water last night, (he thought this would help, why I don't know) and we barely eeked it out and we both overslept this morning. Oh well whatcha gonna do?

Yep-I have gotten mad at him!  I feel so terrible afterwards and like a total *ss.  TTC makes me a crazy person sometimes.  It's just so hard b/c I know the "prefect" time to get it on and if he can't perform I get super upset.  It's all very dramatic and dumb.

  • The romance went out the door once TTC was in full effect.  When it was actually relevant, he had my chart on his phone and he checked my fertility monitor to see when I was in my FW.  If I was home from work, he would come home at lunch to get a quickie in.  We had sex 1-3 times per day during that time.  Sometimes, I would tell him that once was more than enough but he wanted to be sure.  The when the FW was over, we would say, OK, lets skip tonight and watch TV in our jammies.  I hope to get the romance back some day.

This is pretty much us too.  I just tell him when it's "sex night" and it's magic to his ears.
