Infertility

??'s, I'm a not yet IVFer

Based on the fact that I have a Didelphic uterus and am already in the high risk pregnancy pool, IVF would be a very risky option for me and DH. The chance of multiples is too risky for such tight quarters.  This is not 100% out of the question but would need very strong consideration. With that said my question is about the whole process, is it painful? I'm following around all your posts and see bits and pieces of how it works however, not fully understanding. I dont need a complete breakdown of the process just in general is the preping painful and is the ET painful? As compared to the HSG test, which I thought was quite painful.  Thanks so much for taking the time and givng some feedback.   well wishes to all of you and what your going through ...hope for many baby bumps in 2012

FYI - Your risk of multiples is higher doing an injectable IUI than it is with IVF.  With IVF you can choose to transfer ONE embryo - which essentially reduces your chances of multiples (unless that embryo splits into ID twins).

As for your painful question - pain is relative - you may think something is painful and I may not.   I did not find IVF to be painful - more uncomfortable than anything else.

My HSG was also painful and something I hope to never repeat. Nothing in either of my IVF cycles came close. I did have discomfort after egg retrieval (first one was worse than the 2nd) but it was more comparable to bad menstrual cramping. The shots were no big deal either. I hear PIO can be painful, but my doctor prescribed the vaginal gel so I don't know. Good luck with whatever you decide!
