This cycle I'm doing Circle + Bloom for daily meditation and stress relief. I really like it so far and would encourage anyone to check it out! Anyway, today's meditation message was about laughter, and I thought you might appreciate it:
The effects of laughter are becoming more and more understood. Laughter literally opens blood vessels and decreases stress. You can even go to laughter yoga classes now as they are springing up across the entire country. Even the simple act of smiling without cause can literally change your brain.
This is yet another example of what is good for the psyche is good for the body. Norman Cousins demonstrated the effects of laughter on his physical health when, after being diagnosed with a rare disease and given only a few short months to live, he checked out of the hospital and into a comfortable hotel and watched funny movies all day long. He found that 20 minutes of good belly laughter allowed him to sleep deeply for 10 minutes. Eventually he laughed himself into wellness.
This well documented "experiment" paved the way for the study of Psychoneurorimmunology - or how our emotions and thoughts (psyche) and brain ("neuro") interact with our immune system (immunology).
So take time in your life to simply laugh! Put on a funny movie, or read an uplifting and humorous article or book, or go out with friends who make you laugh. And feel your body respond!
In short, thank you all for the nightly confessions, the funny clicky polls and other "off-topic" laughter you bring to me on a daily basis. Perhaps it's all not as off-topic as one would think! ![]()
Re: See, all the NTTCALR stuff DOES have a purpose!
Yeah, Circle+Bloom rocks my world too. I've been using it for four cycles now, but it continues to be beneficial. It always seems to say exactly what I need to hear.
Yes, laughter is extremely healing. This is why I went to see The Dictator last night!
Great info! Thanks for sharing!
BTW-every time I see a post from you, I really want a big girl float. May have to do that this weekend.
