TTC After a Loss

Clomid Question

This is our first medicated cycle and I am really anxious about it. Do you guys take Clomid in the morning or at night? I know it can make you bloated, nauses, and slightly crazy so I was wanting to do everything possible to avoid all of those things.

Also, I would love to have any other info you can give me! Thanks in advance!

Re: Clomid Question

  • I've done 3 cycles and here's my 2 cents.  The first cycle, i took it at night because i read that it lessens the symptoms.  But that cycle, i didn't ovulate until day 17.  I decided to bump it to taking it first thing in the morning in case it could move up my ovulation up even12 hours or so.  Having taken it 2 cycles in the morning, i don't see much of a difference.  The fact is, i felt a little crazy the entire stretch of taking it, not just after i pop a pill, (and even a little crazy throughout the entire month!).  Good luck!  I hope it works well for you and you only need to take it one cycle!

I took mine at night. As for tips - wear clothes on the cooler side, warn DH on potential side effects, and whatever you do, don't remodel your house yourself with loads of family members staying with you to help!  It doesn't end well!! LOL!  Good luck!

I took it at night and still had hot flashes like a SOB! They would actually wake me from a dead sleep. I also had bad cramping and turned into a one woman show. I don't think it matters what time of day you take it, the emotional side effects will come regardless. As will the cramping & bloating. Good luck!

You wouldn't be speaking from personal experience would you Wink

Sounds like general idea is it pretty much sucks regardless of when you take it? Guess I will take it in the mornings since I will at least remember to do it then. DH won't mind too much because he will be in the field for a lot of the time that I am actually taking it (thank God he will be home for FW though!).

Do the hot flashes just last for when you are physically taking it or do the last the whole month? That is what I am the most nervous about. We live in the freakin Mojave Desert, it is hot as hell here to begin with!

  • I took it at night to reduce the nausea.  That part seemed to work.  You may be a bit irrational.  I was very angry.  Just remind yourself that it's the drug and try to think before you speak.  ;)  I had some cramping around O and a lot of bloating, but just to the point of being uncomfortable--nothing crazy.  Also, know that the side effects continue for most of the month, not just while you are taking the pills. You'll be alright, though.  It's not awful.

  • This was my first cycle takin it.  I took 2pills/day so I did one in the morning and 1 at night.  I did notice that my temps were definitely higher in the days I was taking it but I didn't feel noticeably warmer at all.  The only side affect I had were a few headaches in the 5 days I was taking it.  And then afterward I definitely felt some things growing in my ovaries up until O day but it wasnt painful, just noticeable.

    Good luck to you!!

  • I'm on my 6th round.  I've taken it at night and in the morning.  I did get a little nauseous taking it during the day, but honestly if your going to have side effects it doesn't matter when you take it.  This round I had a 4 day long headache and hot flashes around the clock.  I can't wait to O, so hopefully they will end.  My first couple of rounds the side effects weren't that bad.  They seem to be getting exponentially worse the more I take it.  It can may you irrational and irritable, so I would gently try to warn DH.

  • I took it at night and my first cycle I still woke up in the middle of the night with intense hot flashes.  Clomid cycles 2-4 I had no hot flashes.  Every clomid cycle I experienced paranoia and extreme mood swings, I spent half my days trying to keep it together and the other half crying the whole time.  Awful.

  • My first cycle at 50mg I had hot flashes--at least two or three an hour for almost two full weeks. Also, horrible mood swings and some of the worst zits I've had in years.

Second cycle, all I really had was hot flashes. My skin still broke out, but it wasn't quite as bad as the first time. And the mood swings were less intense.

I was just starting to get used to it, and they bumped me up to 100mg this time. It's still early, but so far the hot flashes are the worst they've been, and I've had a headache for three full days so far. ugh.

    Good luck!

How'd you guess?  lol.   The biggest thing I remember is being irrationally angry and hot .  Everything drove me totally insane!   I think it was just bad while I was taking it.  The 2nd half of my cycle wasn't too bad.  I was still warmer than normal (and my temps were higher than normal), but I don't remember crazy hot flashes during the 2ww.  I hope it's not too bad for you!
