either through eating dairy/soy & them tolerating your breastmilk or through switching to regular formula or having them be able to eat yogurt/cheese/etc?
DD seems to be doing well. She is still on Neocate but we introduced a tiny bit of dairy and soy. She has had a few yogurt bite things and didn't react and a bit of tofu with no problem. She used to have very bloody stools from even a tiny bit of dairy so I'm hoping that this is a sign that she has turned the corner. I will be slowly introducing more over the next couple of weeks.

thanks for the responses. my dd is 5.5 months & i just cannot do this diet anymore. dr doesn't think she will respond well to my dairy in my breastmilk at 6 months yet as i trialed soy & she developed horrible diarrhea.
do you think i could intro dairy & only breastfeed her morning & night? otherwise, i sadly am going to wean as i just cannot do this dairy/soy free diet anymore.
Dairy stays in your system for 2 weeks and so you really have to eliminate it totally or stop breastfeeding. The MSPI diet is very hard. I'm vegetarian (which made it even harder...) and lasted 4 months on it but then my own health started to be affected and I had to switch. We tried Nutramigen and DD didn't tolerate it so we had to go to Neocate and she has done AMAZING on it. I had a lot of guilt over stopping breastfeeding but ultimately it was best for me and baby. When I was doing MSPI diet though I cooked a lot with Almond Milk - it cooks very well and I made a lot of dishes that usually call for dairy with it and they turned out great! I also found amazing dairy/soy free cheese at Whole foods that melted well and cooked with that. Amy's Organic food has a search on their website and you can search by allergen and find all the products they carry that are dairy and soy free. I bought a TON of that stuff and they had some really good and filling stuff. If I ever have another baby with MSPI I think I will be able to handle the diet better next time - I know a lot more now than I did and I think I could make a lot of great recipes. I wish I could have breastfed longer and I know you can do it if you want to but if you have to stop, don't worry, your baby will be fine! You have already breastfed through the most important time!!! You have done a great job already so don't feel guilty if you need to stop!

thanks, that makes me feel a lot better. i know it stays in for 2 weeks & i have done so well this whole time w/ no dairy or soy for almost 5 months. i just cannot do it anymore. i'm debating if i should eat a piece of pizza & see what happens since i am planning to wean b/c i cannot do this diet anymore. i feel so sick & unhealthy & i am down to 10 lbs below my normal weight & i'm a thin person to begin with.
Both of my kids had mspi. With my first, I switched from breastmilk to Neocate pretty early on. With my second, I decided to breastfeed until a year no matter what. I cut out dairy and soy for about 7-8 months then slowly put it back into my diet. He is 10 months now and I'm eating everything and he has been fine. He is still nursing 6-7 times a day. Both boys had bloody stools as a reaction to milk and soy.

which did you put back in first? did you start w/ baked in dairy & "hidden" dairy/soy? also, did they ever get watery poops as a reaction?
